I love this ship. Of course I haven't sailed aboard her since she was in the Fjord in 1988, but I still love her.

Any word on her current status? I know she is at Gibraltar, and there have been rumors as to her fate, but nothing has emerged as concrete.

Is she still potentially going to CIC? I would love for her to find a place in their charming fleet, and perhaps a charter out of the UK.

SAGA ROSE docked at the South Mole here this morning for a couple of days before she returns to the Eastern Anchorage on Wednesday. She is having a new anchor fitted after losing one during recent bad weather.

Having a new anchor fitted might be good news.

Hi Tony

Is it known if it is a spare anchor that she carried that is being fitted or one that was available at the dock-yard ?

According to AIS Live, she is currently enroute to Kenya, travelling at approx. 10 knots.

It would seem the report is wrong as she was earlier today in the bay off of Ceuta having crossed through the Straits of Gibraltar traffic.

It could be a translation problem as a port is the usual destination and not a country !

She is still here. Lloyds MIU is also showing her destination as Kenya with an ETA of today! A two-month charter was supposed to have been finalised last week but as yet nothing has happened.

An ETA order is given by an officer. So an order to Kenya was given (it was the same for QE2 a few months ago for China). AIS has very few bugs, human are sometimes full of bugs ....

The last AIS position dated from yesterday show that she was "en route" for somewhere, but not moored at Gibraltar. Maybe once more the weather.

The last position was:

Full-screen
SAGA ROSE
Position Recorded on: 2/21/2010 8:38:53 PM (UTC)
Lon/Lat: -4.680666 / 35.667839
Speed/Course: 1.2 kn / 113°

Today AIS position is:

SAGA ROSE (from C6ZU) - info
2010-02-24 00:43:53z
2 km/h 104°
AIS: longueur 190m largeur 25m tirant d'eau 8.6m
MMSI 308264000 IMO 6416043
Passenger
KENYA (ETA 20100222210000)

Maybe the weather, maybe AIS fault but it does make many faults. Are you sure she is still near Gibraltar ???

According to both AIS Live and Vesseltracker.com, she is back at anchor at Gibraltar's Eastern Anchorage at this time. "Gibraltar" is also her shown destination, again.

Best,

Raoul

And still the same destination: Kenya

Maritimetraffric.com now positions Saga Rose off the coast of Mauretania, nearly as far south as Senegal. Is there any word on her ultimate destination? Has the Kenya deal gone through?

I read that she is heading to S Africa for temporary use as a hotel ship. After that assignment, who knows.

I doubt she is heading for SA for use as a hotel, there is no mention of her anywhere here as doing this. Perhaps at best a call to refuel.

The Football story came from Liners List, but I couldn't see any mention of it anywhere else as Mike says. For the last couple of days her AIS has been showing Walvis Bay, with an ETA of 20 April. Use as an accommodation ship there in Namport seems more plausible, but again there is nothing mentioned anywhere in the news or on websites, that I can find anyway - so could just be for bunkering. We can only do the uusual 'wait and see'. She is certainly on her way somewhere and has been hugging the coastline along the way.

The port information on ships expected does not have her listed at Walvis Bay or Cape Town.

As a lot of building work is going on in the area, perhaps she could be used for construction workers accommodation at the Cape Verde islands.

Not very likely, there has been absolutely no marketing at all for her so she will be empty, Cape Town already has a excess of accommodation for the World Cup not a shortage, FIFA?Match has just released thousands of rooms back to the owners to sell - Cape Town needs more hotel space like Saga Rose needs a hole in her keel !

That said Peter normally has extremely good sources but there is no record of her booked into Cape Town harbour and as always dock space will be an issue.

Saga Rose is tonight showing on the Vessel Tracker website as having sailed past Cape Town.

Her destination is now shown as Port Elizabeth.

Could this be a re-fueling stop before heading to one of the ship breakers yards ?
