Which one is your absolute favorite? For some of you that may be hard to decide, but there has to be that special one.

Mine is the RMS Saxonia, she is beutiful, different, and my grandfather traveled on her with my mother in 1958 (I think) i'm not sure i'll have to ask my mother she may know but its been a long time.

CARONIA of 1948; she was a big ship, but not overwhelmingly huge. Filled with traditional fittings and furnishings, she also offered luxurious mod-cons in the stateroom accommodations. As a passenger you would have run of the entire ship, not being confined to your own class as on other ships (even in their First Class.)

She is my favorite for the same reason.

Existing Cunarder my vote goes to the Queen Mary 1

I never quite bonded with QE2 and found many of he quirks to be less than charming.

To me, QUEEN MARY; she's the one. I got to stay on board her a year after this photo was taken and I'm so glad I did. This first visit was 3 months after my husband passed away, more than a year after that visit, I stayed onboard for 3 days. I'm so glad i did that.

QE2, not so much for the physical ship but as the ship I have the fondest memories of in actual experience.

Interesting choice, Ben. My parents and grandparents had friends who were Cunard regulars, and they always liked Mauretania [2] the best for a crossing. They also loved Caronia for cruising.

Didn't Caronia have separate classes while doing transats though?

CARONIA was designed to be split into two classes (581 in 1st, 351 in Cabin) for transatlantic service, but this was rarely done. She was used mainly on long-length, luxury cruises, just doing the occasional crossing, usually as part of a world cruise or something. So as a passenger on board, you would typically have run-of-ship privileges.

RMS Queen Elizabeth. QE just looked great from any angle and is IMO one of the finest looking and best proportioned liners ever built. QE2 was a great looking ship when 1st built but like most ships that have numerous refits over their careers, her sleek clean lines were damaged with each alteration.

On my two cruises on tss Fairwind and one on Dawn Princess (ex Sylvania) I loved looking for any clues from her Cunard days. When she was Dawn Princess, I could still make out her two prior names on the bow when she was docked. I could also see a faint outline of welded-over 1st class suite windows (just below the promenade deck and similar to Caronia's) that were unique to Sylvania. Those four ships were the ultimate workhorses-not sleek or pretty as built but solid.

For the people who have been on the QM2. Is she really haunted? I have been wondering because I have never sailed on her but I have read many stories of weird "paranormal" endcounters. Thanks

I don't believe in things being haunted but I have never even heard anyone say that she is. I've been on her many times and nothing other-worldly ever happened, not even strange noises in the night.

I always thought QE2 looked better at the end then when she was first put into service. I never liked the pencil thin funnel.

I think you mean QM. Some say she is haunted and I 100% believe it's possible. Our house has had an active spirit in the past.

The original black and white funnel looked great UNTIL she started to bulk-up amidship. After those alterations, the beefy new funnel was far more appropriate and showed-off the 'Cunard Red' beautifully.

I dont know if she haunted. I have never experienced anything like that on her.

If I was a ghost though thats where I would be

Honestly I hate the whole ghost thing on the Queen Mary. In a way I find it to be a disrespect to this great ship and her history. just my opinion.

Philistine.

As originally built, QE2 was an aesthetic masterwork inside and out. I cannot think of any ship built since that has been as carefully designed down to the tiniest details - door knobs, cutlery, everything.

Some of it didn't actually work, but it sure looked great!

Oh, that makes far more sense.

I've certainly been told she's haunted but I've never seen anything haunting-like on board nor anywhere else for that matter. But as a committed skeptic I am probably not the right guy to answer this one.
