Found some nice pics of a few Home Lines ships on Facebook. I thought they looked nice and I would share.

Homeric and Atlantic in Hamilton

Doric sailing in Bermuda

Atlantic from Oceanic

Oceanic, Doric and QE2

The lovely Oceanic

I find it interesting that the three ships Home Lines built are all still going strong for their current owners, granted the Atlantic and Homeric are not THAT old yet, 28 and 24 years old, but Oceanic is 45!!

Great images! I always wondered why Oceanic's cranes were never removed (not that I would want them to be). So many passenger/cruise ships had their kingposts and cargo gear removed or altered over the years. The last one to have them removed was ms Funchal when her original large kingposts were replaced w/a much smaller crane. QE2 also had one of her original perfectly designed cranes replaced years ago.

Thanks for the great photos, Thad. And you're right...there's always been something special about Oceanic. She really has stood the test of time. But she truly shined during those Home Lines years!

Hello !!!
I have notice that in many pictures it looks like some oif the Oceanics fore windows were damaged or something, was she damaged? I have bnever heard this. That was a beautiful shop. Something about her looked very 1960s to me. Even the exterior looks very 1960s.

I've seem the large forward facing windows covered w/their temporary steel covers to protect them. The last images I saw of her w/those covers in place was during her 1st arrival in NYC for Peaceboat last year.

Rotterdam V also had her covers installed during her transatlantic days. The forward facing windows on both ships are low and could be damaged in high seas.

I cruised all the Homes Lines ships from the early 70's on....Homeric, Oceanic, Doric, Atlantic, and the last Homeric. My favorite was Doric. I was never a fan of Oceanic. My maternal family was a fan of Home Lines, and we had many family reunions on board their ships. The longer winter cruises out of NY were their best, but they were discontinued unfortunately in favor of winter cruises out of Florida.

I do not see any of the pics having enough clarity to indicate any damaged windows. However I know of two incidents where a forward facing window in the forward lounge boke. Once as Home Line's Oceanic and once as Premier's Oceanic. There was no damage to the steel structure, just the broken glass.

And yes, since she wwas built in the early 60's, she would have a very 60's look.

Excellent pictures Thad!
I expereinced rough weather onboard ssOceanic(she was then Premier's the StarShip Oceanic) and never saw water over the bows like this!
mvMelody, formerly mvAtlantic was also very stable whilst crossing the Atlantic from Rio to Genoa 5 years ago....
One stormy morning, I got 6 stewards to serve me the entire breakfast menu(I get hungry in rough weather;-)!
The Maitre'd then offered to open the curtains hidding the beautiful views and it was bliss!

My experiences aboard OCEANIC were she was stable as a roller, but was a terrific pitcher. Returning to NYC one Feb, the bow was continually under the water, and then would rise way above.....ropes were up every where and many ill pax.

Wow, those take me back to the days of my youth, when my parents would take us out to the port of NY to see the ships. It's great to see pix of the old Doric, and Oceanic, well, that's just one ship on which I really wish I could have sailed. She was as beautiful a ship as there was in those days.
