Sad to see as this was the first cruise ship we sailed on. It was pretty dated then as compared to current ships.Built in the early 50s.
Once refered to as "A old scow" by the cruise director on our Hawaii cruise on LOTS. We were anchored close to her in Mauii.

Very sad image of one of the finest (and longest lived) liners ever built. In a way I am glad she did'nt get beached and will have to be cut-up on the spot. It is interesting that both the beautiful Indy and ss America both had a similar fate-beached and spit in two.

Such sad photos. As I said before, I had the fortune to have sailed on her in 1995. Those memories will alway be how I will remember her. R.I.P. INDY.

A sad end to a great ship.

If you want to celebrate the history of the sister ships Independence and Constitution I have a book published by American Hawaii in 1990 celebrating their history and American Hawaii's 10th anniversary. The book is loaded with original photos of the ships during their years and a good history of their lives.

New copies of the book are for sale.

I crossed the Atlantic on Constitution three times before I was five years old and that's where I developed a love for ships and the sea.

My father and grandmother came over to the United States on the Constituition back in 1960 to start their lives in America. Part of the history of my family! I always wanted to sail one of these ships around the Hawaiian Islands, instead next week I will sail the Pride of America around the islands. I am sure its not the same but I am sure it will be a great cruise.
