I was checking AIS to see what's going on. Then I wandered over to Cozumel and had seen the other ships are resuming their runs normally, until I had spotted a cruise ship sitting in the Bay of Campeche area....What is ENCHANTED CAPRI doing there?? Or is there a different one?

Deb, it's the same ship, the ex. AZERBAIDZHAN. She is moored in the Gulf as a hotel ship for oil rig workers.

It's a bit surprising that she was never renamed for her current role.

As reported on another site Enchanted Capri has been given a stay of execution by Demar. She was reported as having been sold for scrap at the end of 2011, but recent pictures show her sparkling with a blue hull.
See the pictures on Marine Traffic for last Jnuary and December versus that in May 2011 when she looked awful.

Hi Pam,

the ENCHANTED CAPRI was refurbished at Ciramar shipyards in the Domenican republic last December. That's also where she received her new blue hull and a complete technical overhaul.

She'll have some more time with Demar definitely!

In the meantime, the OCEAN JEWEL OF ST. PETERSBURG (ex PYOTR PERVYJ), which was laid up at the same shipyard for several years after Titan Cruise Line went out of business, has been scrapped by now.

Thanks for this fascinating info, Patrick. Those 1980s built Soviet ferry/cruise ships have not done as well as the BYELORUSSIA and IVAN FRANKO classes for longevity. Did the scrapping of PALM BEACH PRINCESS and OLA EXMERALDA ever occur or are they still in the Dominican Republic?

I second that, Patrick never disappoints us! I had been wondering about the OCEAN JEWEL OF ST PETERSBURG indeed, as she was nowhere to be found. Do you know when the scrapping was done?

The OCEAN JEWEL OF ST. PETERSBURG can be seen on CIRAMAR's website (top left on this page):

Ciramar took possession of the OCEAN JEWEL in 2011 after the owners were unable to pay and look after the ship.
The scrapping started stepwise, first they removed only parts and finally moved her from her layup-berth to another pier after several years of layup. During 2012 the ship was stripped and scrapped.
Not as it is usual in Alang or Turkey, to start with the bow, Ciramar started with the funnel, mast and went from up to down.
On the picture at the Ciramar website you'll see her when scrapping was started. The funnel is partially missing, as well as the mast and bridge.

@ Peter
I'm not sure at 100% but from what I've heard, the PALM BEACH PRINCESS was scrapped or is at least in status of being scrapped while the OLA ESMERALDA should still be there.

You're right, the GEORG OTS type of ships have not been that fortunate. Of seven ships built in the 80ies, two have been scrapped already, 2 are laid up and only 3 are in service.
But those 2 which are laid up, are in good working-condition and can be put back in service right away. Both (OCEAN LIFE and OCEAN ATLANTIC) have been entirely refurbished and are ready to cruise. Enquiries welcome!

Thanks for that Patrick. There are about 3 views of OJofSP in this album on Ciramar's Facebook pages and she also appears in a different position on YouTube. Must all be from the latter part of 2011 though as complete. No sign of the others, unless I missed them.

It's a shame the other 2 are laid up Drapetsona/Salamis and Tilbury. What was the real story behind the short lived Indian Blue Ocean cruises - truly a crack or a valve left open?

Pam

Patrick/Pam: the OCEAN ATLANTIC should be commencing a charter to Areva as a windfarm accomodation vessel this month:

Yes, that's right about the charter. The deal about the charter for offshore-operation has been discussed already for a longer time. But as from Summer 2014 the OCEAN ATLANTIC is available for charter again, if the contract will not be extended and if any other potential charter is possible. Also OCEAN LIFE was supposed to be made ready for offshore operation.

@Pam: The Indian Ocean Cruises-charter was not a successful venture at all.
There was no crack. All resulted in a leak from a broken valve.

OCEAN ATLANTIC has left Tilbury yesterday night. She'll arrive in Bremerhaven tomorrow morning to start her charter with AREVA.
