Hi All:

Just wanted to let everyone know that my new book on the German ocean liners, Bremen and Europa, is now available to order on-line at the web page below.

This page is for folks in the U.S. and Canada only; a separate page for folks in the UK, Europe and the rest of the world will be available soon.

If you are so kind as to order a copy, please be patient: the books are being shipped from the UK.

The book will eventually be available in select bookstores and on other websites. It is already on Ebay (for the same price) but, as many of you know, Ebay takes a huge chunk in fees so, I actually prefer that people use the above link.

Many thanks to all those who have expressed interest!

-Russ

Looks like a great book and I am very happy to have just ordered a copy. I am sorry to say that I was disappointed in Frank Braynard's history of these great ships, however, I did purchase Stephen Card's original painting of "Bremen Passing Europa" which was intended for Braynard's book. It never made it into the final copy but now hangs in my living room next to some other memorabilia from these vessels. Your book will find an honored place next to these items.

Ken:

Thanks much; the book will be available for purchase in the UK shortly.

Carl:

Many thanks for the order.

Frank's book on the two ships is one of only three of his I don't own. When I read the unfavorable reviews, I thought it best to pass on buying it: I wanted to remember his work in a positive way. Sadly, I think age just got the best of him. He was such a great advocate of educating people about ships, and his zeal was infectious.

BTW, I would love to see a photo of the painting in your living room!

Russ, you are very welcome. As I read more I am more impressed with the text - a lot of 'ship' books have pretty pictures but the text can be so turgid that you have to read and reread it before you take it in. Your text is concise, informative, well written and incredibly well organised - like I said I can't put it down!!!

Cheers

Ken

I've just seen this thread and visited the website linked above and I can say I'm really attracked by this book. Looks like a serious job was done there and a must have for any serious liners fan. Too bad I can't afford it for now.
Congratulations Russ!

On my Christmas list as well.

With these two running mates being the most modern liners of their time, I'm sure it'll be a fascinating read-- the preview page outlining the clever fuel-bunker-as-anti-roll-ballast arrangement was intriguing. Also very cool that the book also covers Europa's later years as Liberté. Can't wait to read it!

I have to give my hearty seal of approval on this book as well: very well written, with excellent descriptions of these ships and their own, unique differences--they weren't simply identical sisterships in any sense.

A great selection of photos gives the reader a feeling of "being there."

There has been very little written about these liners (at least in English) which covers them in such detail.

Congratulations on a job well done, Russ. I encourage anyone with an interest in ocean liners to add this to their bookshelves!

Rich

Hi Russ,

Is your book available yet at any store in the Queen City, and are there any book signings planned?

Hi Frank:

Not yet. The ISBN is in the process of being verified in the UK and, once that is done (could take up to five weeks) it will be available on the international data base.

I've actually been asked about doing a book signing but I have to give it some thought. I'm trying to be realistic about the interest that a book about ocean liners would generate in the Cincinnati area.....I don't want to being sitting there with a stack of books while crickets ring out in the background!

I can fully understand your thinking. So if you do and I can make it, I'll bring along some old photo albums and other ephemera of the DELTA QUEEN and QE2. I think that those old crickets won't have a chance.
