Spotted her off the Crystal Symphony bridgecam in Barbados. When I tried looking her itinerary up on the various cruise calendars and Classic International Cruises website nothing came up. Is she chartered?

She sails for the French market through "NDS Voyages" - CIC are the majority shareholder.

THANKS Pam. By her schedule I see now that she is going to be in Miami for two days at the end of March (30, 31), FLL on April 3rd, then up the coast to Charlseton SC, Norfolk, VA, Baltimore, and NYC (April 10th-12th) for all our shipspotting enthusiasts!

Nice old ship.....Princess Danae. Had friends who sailed on her many years ago when she was owned by Carras Cruises along with her identical sister. My friends loved her....huge cabins, 450 pax, interesting voyages, all Greek service staff. I wonder if things are much the same? Has pax capacity been increased?

They have been altered but they are sort of recognizable (but certainly not the same).

Some links and a short video of Princess Danae at La Valetta (you can see how the front of her superstructure has been modified quite a bit).

I'd add that as they spent considerable time under different ownership, they have been altered in different ways. I would consider PRINCESS DANAE to be the more altered of the two -- certainly she is at least in a structural sense.

I suppose it was impossible to earn money with the low density of her Carras Cruises days. I am sure there are many changes on board. Still, it's nice to know she and her sister are around and sailing.

Don't forget the Danae also suffered a fire that ended her days with Costa. I assume some of the changes came about when she was fixed up after the fire and then by the separate ownership.

I don't recall the fire aboard this ship. Does anyone know the extent of the damage, cause and maybe a photo. Thanks. Grant

On 10 December 1991, during a brief winter lay-up in Genoa, DANAE (as she was then) was torched by arsonists on the eve of her World Cruise*. She was badly damaged and towed to Piraeus in July 1992 under the name ANAR after being sold. By the time she arrived in Piraeus, she had been renamed STARLIGHT PRINCESS. She was refitted in March 1994 by yet another Greek company chartered for two years to Baltic Line of Stockholm who renamed her BALTICA. She later was sold to her present owners in July 1996.

*By the way, the passengers on the World Cruise did not miss out as they were all transported to San Juan on the then brand-new COSTA CLASSICA and transferred to DANAE's sistership DAPHNE which continued with the published World Cruise.

Here is PRINCESS DANAE at Miami this morning:

She is staying here overnight and I've made arrangements to go on board for a visit tomorrow--I've never been aboard this vessel, although I've been aboard her sister DAPHNE a number of times.

Rich, you must be very excited! I hope you get the chance to take a lot of pictures and look forward to maybe seeing some of them. I wonder if Ernie will also get a chance to see her when she goes to FLL?

I've always liked these very attractive twins. I wonder why they were'nt given modern bows when they were rebuilt.

I'd be curious as to what those cabins are like that have the ports barely above the waterline

Actually, those sturdy, British-built blunt bows have served the ships well in their voyages around the world during the past 56 years--maybe in hindsight, it's a good thing the originals were kept!

Tony: Thanks for the reply. Do you know if the damage was in the machinery spaces, accomodations or public rooms? Are there any pics showing the damaged exterior? Very curious!! Thanks Grant

Never mind Ernie. I see she parked way in the back and isn't shceduled to leave until 11pm. That makes it nearly impossible to get any pictures.

So delightful to see a ship of this age still in service.

I will try to see her on Sunday when she is in NYC. Last year we did not have any vintage ships gracing our port so it will be a very welcome sight.
