Just last night, there is campaign for Revell to create models of the ANDREA DORIA, ROTTERDAM, & NORMANIDE. They do have a Facebook page, we're hoping we'll get enough interested parties involved to get these plastic models created so we can build them ourselves. After all, we know the NORMANDIE & ANDREA DORIA are the most sought after models.

Thank you Ben, we need all the support we can get. It would be so wonderful to see these models in plastic kits to be built. It's nice to see these models in metal form, however; there's nothing wrong with building one of your own.

A 1/600 or even larger kit(s) would be great. BTW, do kids even build models today?

Thank you for the site Ernst, but I have a sense of accomplishment when I put one together like I would say a Revell kit.

That's what I mean. I am not talking about getting a 'finished model' from e.g. shapeways. Instead of pushing Revell to come up with a kit the ship enthusiast community should be able to get such a kit via 'rapid prototyping'. It's all there: One can even get CAD programs for free these days and companies addressing a broader audience like shapeways make it really easy to submit data to get the parts for a kit. This is certainly within reach giving the rather sophisticated CAD models of passenger ships published on the web.

OH YEAH!
Revells QM2 kit in 1/400th is pretty damned fantastic..I bought mine in 2004 & she's still
not finished (I work veeeerry slowly & sporadically)..the tooling, execution & accuracy of this kit is amazing.Scale is just right at 1/400th detail is WOW.With the addition of Photo Etched brass detailing items & you've got a winner...

Now,if Revell can do similar job with Normandie & Andrea Doria then there'll be many a happy ship modeller the world over...Another kit maker that'd do a superb job on merchant/passenger ship model kits is TAMIYA of Japan...probably even more so than Revell if their 1/350th scale ships of war kits are any indication.

1:400 Revell AidaDiva kit

...that should tell you where their priorities are.

Seriously: It's of course good to see that new ship model kits are released. This actually makes it more likely that one day the dream of a nice Andrea Doria, Rotterdam or Normandie kit might become a reality. However, for now I would rather bet on rapid prototying for such 'niche' model kits.
