I read on another site that the classic 1961 built liner Funchal will soon be sporting a re-newed livery. The ship is completing an extensive SOLAS 2010 rebuilding which included removing the ships original wood paneling among many other changes. The new livery will include a black hull w/red boot topping and a yellow stripe. The yellow stripe will compliment the newly repainted yellow and black funnel. The livery is similar to the ships original 1961 livery. She will be better looking than ever!

It's great to see her renovated and operating at the age of 50. I sailed on her in 1984 and at that time was wondering how much life she would have left in her!

I agree. It's great to see someone put money in her, despite the age. Hopefully she will still have the same "feel" with the renovations taking place.

While I like the new livery I would rather have the old interior, in the same refit she gets these colours it appears all her lush woodwork has been ripped out to please SOLAS 2010 regulations.

It is possible to replace the original woodwork with panals of imitation woodwork which meets the new regulations, so it will be interesting to see if this has happened..

They have plenty of experience of this sort of work having updated both of their Princess ships.

New woodwork does not need to be imitation. There are natural veneers that meet SOLAS 2010 requirements but they are probably far more expensive than simulated veneers. I don't have a problem w/a really good simulated veneer as long a classic ship continues to operate.

Mind you, it seems that Sea Cloud will be SOLAS compliant keeping her original woodwork.
