It has been reported that the 1981 built Pullmantur Cruises ' Ocean Dream ' has been sold for use by the Japanese Peace Movement with delivery in April 2012 after she finishes her Brazilian cruising season.

No news on the future of ' ss The Oceanic ' which is due to sail on the 75th Peace Boat Voyage about the 24th January 2012 from Yokohama.

I certainly hope that the SS Oceanic finds another operator if Peace Boat decides to retire her from their organization. It would be a real shame to see this vessel at Alang. Under the right organization, the Oceanic could sail on for many years without any problems.

Hi Donald

With many countries introducing anti polution rules for their ports her chances of remaining in service are slim.

Another older steam turbine engined cruise ship also laid up and for sale is the 26,428 grt. Louis Cruises ' The Emerald '.

She started life as the American built Santa Rosa in 1957 and was re-built for cruising in 1993.

Like ss ' The Oceanic ' she is also Solas 2010 compliant but now becoming to costly to operate.

Hi Neil,
Your right. Ocean Dream was sold to Peace Boat. Thus, her 75th voyage with Peace Boat is the last for the SS Oceanic. With the current fuel prices as well as the anti-pollution regulations makes her chances as an operational vessel slim. I would hope that she could find a useful alternative to the scrapyard.

I am surprised that the SS Emerald hasn't gone to the ship breakers yet.

THE EMERALD had a huge rebuild in the early 90s. Maybe Louis (her owners) are thinking that this warrants a higher asking price? However, the bottom line is that she is still a steamship, and a heavy, over-engineered US-built steamship at that...

Thanks Maru.

Malcolm - no excuse for a few photos :-

"(Thursday) 6/21 Afternoon United Kingdom (Till Berry [London]) entry into port
(Fri.) 6/22 Night United Kingdom (Till Berry [London]) departure"

I think the translation of "Till Berry" sounds much nicer than the real thing

Hi

Would anyone living in that area be able to get any pictures of Ocean Dream from the Gravesend - Tilbury ferry assuming that is still running.

According to passenger’s blog,
There is trouble in the Ocean Dream, delayed departure of Xiamen.
Contents of the trouble does not seem to become apparent.

Who is providing the on board operations for the Ocean Dream? Anyone know?

I am a little surprised that she is having mechanical troubles so quickly and wonder if this foreshadowing what is to come ....

Mechanical staff is a member of from Oceanic.
They were from South America on board from the time of sailing without passengers.
Mechanical staff of Oceanic has become insufficient for that. Seems to be the time required to recover the failure of the generator.

That would mean SeaHawk is proving the deck and engine departments to the ship as they did for the Oceanic.

Their track record is clear for everyone to see

Yesterday,I asked the friend who is a crew on OCEAN DREAM.
Crew is not the Japanese have been employed by SEAHAWK.
Ocean Dream is a bareboat charter.
Owner of OCEAN DREAM is still PULLMANTUR (RCI).
Although the owner of the OCEANIC was SEAHAWK, after the end of that charter of PEACEBOAT was returned to PULLMANTUR.

Hi Maru,
Do you know any of the Ocean Dream's crew members who might know of the current status of the SS Oceanic in China?
