So the beautiful Conte di Savoia built by Italia in the early 1930's

She was bombed out and destroyed during WW2. But her hull was raised and held by the Italians for rebuilding. In the end her hulk was eventually scrapped in the 50's as Italia decided to build new tonnage instead

I thought it was an intriguing idea as to how she might have looked had Italia gone ahead and rebuilt her. So with the help of Scott McBee's lovely paintings of the Conte and the Andrea Doria I have created this image showing old and new.

I think she would have been a lovely addition to the Italia fleet, knowing how beautifully they were building new liners in the early 50's.

What a fantastic looking ship, in both cases.

The Italians certainly knew how to build them beautifully.
