Looking at taking our first cruise in 2003 & starting the research now. Has anyone experienced some outstanding kids programs onboard ships from the different lines? We will be sailing with 2 girls, ages 7 & 13.

Good Day Jeff and welcome aboard.
We cruised on the Imagination (Carnival) with our girls about 5 years ago and they loved it. There was all sorts of things for that age group to do.

Carnival & Royal Caribbean have excellent children and youth programs!!

Both Carnival and Princess have wonderful kids programs and I just read on the CruisePage that RCII is improving thier programs. Let's also not forget Disney. Family cruising is such a big business now a days I think you'll be fairly safe with any of the main lines, particulary in a popular itinerary such as the caribbean.

I recently heard from some cruise passengers that cruised the Disney Wonder and they said that in the dining rooms there is only adult food on the menu, no special section for children??? I thought this was odd since this was Disney??

Disney is also more expensive than other cruise lines.

Both Disney ships have an alternative dining room for adults. It's called Paolo and seats 140. It's on Deck 9 aft and has a great view.

We did the Disney cruise last March and an Alaskan cruise the year before with the kids. We found the Disney Cruise to be overwhelmed by kids. The programs are great, but with massive amounts of kids. We went at prime time and pools when at sea were packed - arms and legs everywhere! Also very expensive. You definitely pay less for a different cruise line with a kids program and I'm sure the kids will be thrilled with the whole experience. We found the kids recieved alot more personal attention on the Alaskan Cruise (NCL)as the number of kids was much less and not as overwhelming. Although I always said for the pre-teen age the Disney Cruise would be great. P.S. The dining rooms definitely had your typical kids menu with the exception of Palo of course. We are doing the new NCL Sun in December with the kids - if you want I'll give you some feedback on their kids programs.
