I am going to the Eastern Caribbean on the Grand Princess in Spring of 2000, and I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on excursions for any of the ports, which include St. Maarten, St. Thomas and Princess Cays. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I like to do everything. I am a big shop person, but swimming and extreme sports are fun too, like snorkling, jet-skiing, para-sailing etc.

You can shop till you drop in St. Thomas and St. Maarten. Crew tells us prices in St. Maarten are better, especially on radios, cameras, booze, etc. There is an excursion on a boat to Marigot - shopping there is very expensive - and on the way back they stop at a beach for para-sailing and swimming. We went on a snorkel tour to Pinel Island once but the water was very rough and cloudy - had to be careful as there was an undertow. I think it was here in St. Maarten where they have a sail boat race and the passengers are the crew. Hear it's lots of fun but hard work. Think it was called the Americas Cup race.
In St. Thomas there are lots of snorkel, scuba diving, sailing, etc excusrions. Saint Johns is the best spot for these. Tons of shopping in town or at Havensight Mall (some ships dock right here)Have fun!!
P.S. forgot to mention Orient Beach in St. Maarten - beautiful - you can go to the nude, semi-nude, or non-nude sections, each designated by the coloured umbrellas - nice long, beach for walking, and good restaurants right on the beach. If it is windy and rough, swimming can be hazardous - again the undertow - warning signs will be up.

In St. Thomas, Princess offers alot of different snorkeling adventures(up to 6, I think). I can't recomend any because I didn't go on any of them. However, I wish I tried the kayaking trip they offered. There's also a bike trip available. They take you to the top of this mountain and you coast down! While I was there I tried my hand at shopping, looking for bargains. But nothing really caught my eye.
At St. Maarten, Orient Beach was cool. White sand, blue water. They have para sailing and jet skis available there. But, I'm not sure about the prices.
At Princess Cays, you can purchase banana boat rides, jet skis, snorkels. I can't remember if there was para sailing there. You might want to rent that stuff through Princess ahead of time, I waited till I got on the island and had to wait for equiptment to be returned, especially the jet skis. And if you can, get off the island about an hour to an hour and a half before the last tender because the line was almost as long as the beach. At least that's how it was for me...maybe they fixed that problem by now.

Hi, I'm going on the Grand in Nov. 2000. Let me know how it goes. We were in St. Maarten's before and the excursion that I loved was the Golden Eagle Desert Island Getaway. It is a red carpet treatment as you take a ride of about an hour to a island to snorkel, lounge or whatever. You sail on a large Catamuran and the crew caters to your every whim, champaign, punch, sodas, whatever. The waves are so huge and be prepared to get splashed, but that was half of the fun. Enjoy.
