Am traveling with my elderly parents in February to southern caribbean - Antigua, Barbados, Guadeloupe, St Lucia. What excursions are interesting that do not include alot of walking? My parents are more comfortable using the cruise lines excursions.

Sounds like your going on HAL.
On Barbados there is a tour to Harrison's Cave. Buses will take you there and you tour the cave in a train. If you get lucky the bus driver may take you on a mini tour on the way back. Ours did and it was great, even though we were taken to his wife's tee shirt stand the view was beautifull.
Antigua does not have much in the town. Check out the tours the ship offers.
Will get back to you later this week. I will dig out my stuff from last year's cruise and see what was offered.

Is it possible to do Harrisons Cave and the Atlantis submarine on the same day? I see most of the tours that do either take 4 to 4.5 hours each. Would it be more efficient to get your own transportation to each site rather than the ship itinerary?

My Harrison Cave tour left early, not long after we docked. I think it took about 3 hrs tops. (I will double check this with my husband). I do remember the bus dropped us off in town and I had plenty of time to go through the shops then join my husband for a couple of beers in a bar near a dock.
I do not know how long the submarine thing is but if you are going to St. Thomas I believe there is a sub there also.

Thanks,
We are going to St. Thomas but I know a slew of people there so our day is pretty full already. I've heard the Barbados sub trip is better. I know it goes deeper (130 feet) and the area has been less ravaged by storms and over-exuberant fishing, etc. The actual dive takes 20-30 minutes but I'm not sure how long all the proverbial prep and debriefing they do. Thanks again.

Luvtocruis and Gordy,

The Harrison's Cave tour is listed in the shore excursions book for 2 hrs. That is about what was , per my husband
. We were on the 1st or 2nd bus. We did not wait long to board the tram. How long it takes, probably depends on how many buses are ahead of you.
The sub is listed for 1 1/2 hrs. (45 min drive time). You should be able to do both.

Barbados Grand Tour 5 1/2 hrs includes the Frances Plantation House an operating plantation growing sugar cane, Gun Hill Station, Flower Forest,Sunbury Plantation which serves a lunch buffet and last St. John's church.
Helicopter 1 1/4 hrs.
Island Safari Tour 5 hrs. Open safari land rover jeeps tour the island.
St. Lucia
Island Splendor Drive 3 hrs.goes through Castries and stops at Eudovic Art Studio (interesting wood carvings), then past some plantations and on to fishing village of Anse la Raye. Last stop Marigot Bay, beautiful yachting anchorages, where Dr. Doolittle was filmed.
Catamaran to Morne Coubaril Estate , stops for a swim then on to the plantation.

Guadeloupe
Island Tour by motorcoach 3 hrs. Scenic drive to Basse-Terre, then along the foothills of the rain forest to National Park area. Walk to a Waterfall, then off to a rum distillery.
Floral Park & Island Drive 3 1/4 hrs. This tour takes you to Domaine de Valombreuse a floral park surounded by tropical flowers and local bird life. The a drive through a neighborhood noted for homes covered in flowers. The tour ends where else but the run distillery!
Soufriere Volcano and Island tour 4 hrs. includes the volcano, no need to hike, Fort St. Charles, ending in Basse-Terre. Must tender back to the ship.
***See my posting in this forum on favorite island. I loved Guadaloupe!!
St. John's Antigua
Scenic Drive and Nelson's Dockyard Tour 2 1/2 hrs.
We arrived in Antigua very late due to weather and an engine problem . There is not much in the town. Advertised local bar, I think it was "Hemmingways" was a dive. My husband was supposed to meet me there while I checked out a couple of shops, when I arrived he was standing outside. Believe me, it had to pretty bad, for him to be waiting outside. We went to a casino and got a drink there.
The tour info is from HAL's shore excursions book from March 1999.
Have a wonderfull cruise.
