I'm travelling in March on Carnival's Fantasy. I would appreciate any info on shore excursions in Nassau. Has anyone been to Stingray City on Blue Lagoon Island?

Thanks
Lori

Lori,
My daughter has been to Blue Lagoon Island. She swam with the dolphins. There were 2 deals on this and she took the most exspensive one. She told me it was a once in lifetime thing and well worth it. They had her lay on her back and the dolphine actually pushed her across the entire area.
On the down side they had to sit around forever to go back to Nassau. Pictures were taken by Blue Lagoon and they were waiting for them to be developed. (She was not on a cruise but staying in Nassau) She told me "Atlantis" was beautiful and not to be missed.
Have a great time!

Blue Lagoon does have a web site. Off hand I do not know the address, but I recall finding it by doing a search.

Lori - the URL is http://dolphinswim.com
If you can't bring it up this way go into Yahoo, type in Blue Lagoon Nassau and it will show you where it is.
I have also heard that Atlantis is worth seeing - didn't make it there on our last cruise.
Have fun.

I have not been in Nassau for many years, so I don't know if the program still exists. If it does by all means look into it! The Nassau Tourist Commission, located just beyond the Straw Market on Bay Street, had a program call 'People to People'. It matched to up with local citizens who welcomed you to their homeland. We got to see and do more than any commercial tour could possibly offer.

to lori, i too am on the fantasy going to nassau on march 16. so far i've come across no one who will be on board with me so i guess my daughter and i will have to whole ship to ourselves. when are you sailing? i also have some questions for anyone who can help me out. we want to do a snorkel trip and are thinking about the ones the ship offers. will we have a lot of competition for them? what time do they start? will it give us time to do anything else? will we be safe heading out on our own to the atlantis in the evening and say returning to the ship after say midnight? any help is greatly appreciated. dyan

Thank you so much for the info. I was able to find The Blue Lagoon web site thru Yahoo. I do plan on visiting the Atlantis Hotel as well.

JDCasey, I too experienced a day with locals in Jamaica once. I agree, you see much more than a commercial tour offers.

Dyan,I am travelling on March 16th as well. I understand Carnival offers a 2hr. snorkel tour with both morning and afternoon departures. The Blue Lagoon Island Tour is a 5hr. tour leaving at noon. I would prefer a morning trip. After visiting The Blue Lagoon web site I found I may be able to arrange this myself.

Lori,

Atlantis is definitely well worth seeing. We were there in Jan 97, we picked up a guide/van right as we got off the ship, he showed us the sights and dropped us off at Atlantis and said he would come back for us at a cetain time, and he did. It did not cost us anything to wander through the resort, but I am sure I read on the forum that they now charge, however it would be well worth any charge. The pools are very nicely laid out, and the underground tunnel and aquarium is quite something else, you could spend hours just wandering around this place. There are nice shops, plenty of eating venues as well, its quite a place. Hope you manage to pack it all in.

lori, thank god, we won't be on that cruise alone. this is our first cruise ever and we are so excited and a little nervous as with any new experience. have you done this before? have you been to nausau before? i think we will probably do a ship excursion as we are new to this but want to do some shopping and see atlantis at night so are wondering about the safety of two women alone at night. so much to see and do and so little time to do it. i don't see us getting any sleep so we can fit it all in. are you a couple or a family or going it alone? would love to hear back from you dyan

Lori:
Dyan:
We cruised the fantasy last week and the cruise was great. We entered the atlantis and went to the aquarium. The free part is ok and took us about 20 minutes to view the display. The rest costs fifty bucks for two to see, we bypassed this part. We then went out back toward the beach and were stopped and asked if we were guests of the resort, indicating no they said it would cost to view the grounds and the beach is off limits to all but the guests. Of course with 3 cruise ships docked at one time they have to control us cruisers. So counting the cab ride to and from the atlantis it will cost about 68 dollars for 2 to partake in the atlantis. We also took the blue lagoon excersion from the fantasy, I did snorkel and had an enjoyable time but the rocks are terrible when enterning and leaving the water. I busted a knee and saw another with his knee cap busted. I would deffinitly do it again. There were a couple of kids that were feeding the fish which made the fish swarm around them. Turned out that cheerios did the trick.

cncservo,

Just goes to show that nothing ever stays the same. We were on the beach, at the pools, in the aquarium, in the hotel at the shops and all for nothing. I guess when you think about it, it was only a matter of time before they latched on to a money spinner. 25 dollars a head is still worth it I guess, but only if you are willing to spend a wee bit of time there, not worth it if you are going to rush through just to be able to say that you have been there, done that etc....... Thanks for the update - thats the beauty of this forum...

cncservo, we are sailing on the Fantasy on April 2 and want to snorkel. Do you mind saying how much the excursion to the Blue Lagoon cost? How long were you gone? Where else would you recommend going in either Nassau or Freeport? Thanks for the info.

The Blue Lagoon Tour left at 12 noon, they took us by taxi to a dock next to the atlantis. From there it was about 40 minutes to the lagoon. The cost was $26 without, $39 with snorkel equipment. I thought it was strange that only one time was offered. The passangers to the lagoon also included Disney Magic cruisers and people that were staying at the atlantis. At your cruise date there might be more than one excursion.

Also included with our group to the lagoon were the cruisers that opted for the swim with the stingrays at blue lagoon tour. According to the info this tour will take you to a 3 acre marine park where you can swin with stingrays and other sea creatures. This is $50 and includes snorkel gear. Duration 4 1/2 hours.
In all there were 5 snorkel trips offered to us, the other three are located off barrier reefs. Will check in later.

Once again, thank you to all responses. The information is very helpful. I like the cheerios idea for attracting the fish.

Dyan, This will be our second cruise, our first with Carnival. I am travelling with my husband and our 11 year old son. My son is really excited about the opportunity to swim with stingrays at the Blue Lagoon. I believe the dolphin swim has an age restriction. If you are apprehensive about going on your own in the evening to the Atlantis you may want to join the ships evening excursion there. For $36.00 p. person this tour includes a musical production, transportation, 1 drink and gratuities. Happy Sailing, Lori

Dyan, The information I found shows a 8:00 - 8:30pm departure for main sitting and 10:00-10:30pm departure for late sitting. It doesn't give the return time. I hope the information I found is up to date.

We arrived at the Port Canaveral dock at 11:30am, Carnival had just started checking in guests then started loading the ship at 12:30pm. Upon entering our cabin there was a copy of the carnival capers news letter. This news letter contained info on the tours and carnival actually started booking the tours at 1:00pm on the Atlantic deck, fwd. There was also a travel and orientation talk at 3:00 pm in the universe lounge explaining the tours, shopping etc., with booking after the talk. Entering the ship at the earlist possible time is the best way to go. One can explore the ship for hours, eat, take care of shore tours, get lost some more then go outside and enjoy the view as the ship is setting sail on your cruise. Its great!

The tour order form that you fill out to book your tours has no atlantis tour or even mentions paradise island. It could be different on your cruise.

When we go to Nassau and the weather is nice, we take a cab to Club Med Paradise Island and purchase a day pass. You get use of their facilities and an excellent buffet lunch including beverages.
