We're heading off on a cruise in March. One stop is St. Lucia. Haven't been there since 1972. Is Bagshaw's still in existence and is Marigot Bay a good beach spot to spend the day. Suggestions please.

Yes, Bagshaw's is still there. Last time we were there we docked at a new docking pier and they had a store right on the dock, along with other stores. They don't have as much stock as the main store and it is quite small. I found the staff kind of uppity, not like the staff at the main store. Maybe they were having a bad day.
We only stopped at Marigot Bay for about 1/2 hour on a shore excursion.
Have a great time.
What ship are you going on?

Sympatico. Thank you for the quick response. We will be on the Bolero. Any other suggestions for the land excursions? I understand that there is a charge for the "volcano". Years ago it just happened to be a sight.

Sorry, Elizabeth, I have no suggestions for other excursions. My memory is so bad about these islands, but I did remember Bagshaws, because I bought some lovely placemats there the last time.
Have a great time.

You will find major changes in St. Lucia. There are now two liner piers there one on each side of the harbour and both have duty free shops. The Bolero usually docks at the one nearest the 'downtown' part of the town. Straight astern of her is a new market complex made up of a facinating local market with everything from fruits and vegetables to local crafts and t-shirts etc. Also not to be missed within a short walk is the catholic Cathedral--very Caribbean. Bagshaws is still in existance. One of the best shore tours is the catamaran/van tour to the volcanoe.

just returned from our trip on the Bolero [I wonder if Elizabeth was on the same cruise as us] We loved it, even if it was a little rough. We are saving for our next trip, just don't tell my husband:=) We spent $700 on tours but felt everyone of them was worth the money. We bought most of our drinks during the happy hour.Except for the last night, my husband lost control of the wallet strings, or should we say the white card.I'd love to hear from others on the same trip to see what the highs and lows were for you.

Welcome back first-timers. Yes, I was on the Bolero for the March Break. It was our first cruise too. We had no problem with the rocking of the ship. There was never a dull moment. You could be as busy or as quiet as you wanted. First-timers. It seems that you spent alot on excursions. We were with another couple and so on shore we just grabbed a taxi and told him where we wanted to go. It was so much cheaper than the cruise arranged excursions. In St. Lucia we did the Soufriere tour and botanical gardens with a stop at Bagshaw's on the coast. Really enjoyed Virgin Gorda. Wish that our stay had been longer as the Baths were a great place for snorkeling. So, where is your next cruise off to?

Hi Betty. Well our next cruise is NEXT MARCH BREAK. As you can see we even changed our name from firsttimers to HOOKED ON CRUISING. We really are hooked. we are going again nezt march break, if we can get the same price deal we would even go back to the same islands. We loved every minute of our trip, we can honestly say that we cannot think of one thing that was negetive. Even the rocking of the boat did not bother us although my son was sick for a day.I have talked to a few people through the internet who where on the Bolero the same time as us. I often wonder if we chatted or saw each other. While in St Lucia we talked to passengers from one of the other cruise ships. One couple had been on the Bolero two years earlier and this time was on the Grand Princess. They said that they preferred the Bolero to the larger ship.I know what you mean by saving money on the tours. We where also with another family and we had been advised before we left on the trip to book the tours from the ports instead of on the ship, but when it's your first time you really don't know what to do. Next time we will definitly book from the port. Are you thinking of booking another trip somewhere?
