Am going on a cruise in 10 days and haven't been to the Caribbean before. I read at Coki Beach you can buy food to feed the feed while you are snorkeling.

My questions is can you bring your own fish food to feed them? If so what is best. Also is it a good idea to feed the fish when you are snorkeling? Do they get aggressive?

They love dinner rolls. Some guides don't allow you to feed them. Some feed the fish for you. On one snorkling trip the guide threw a bunch of food into my vicinity. I got a little frightened at the large swarm and swung my hand at them to make them go away. I ended up getting finned in the back of the hand. The wound was not serious, but it bled like a son of a gun.

Janine:
While snorkling at the Blue Lagoon there were 2 snorklers that had a swarm of fish following them. They had a small bag of fish food that turned out to be cheerios. The cruise ship you sail on might have fish food for breakfast.

I recently snorkeled with stingrays at Blue Lagoon. I was too frightened to feed them as they have a tendency to suck on your skin. Our guide showed us a recent mark on his hand and assured us this was no problem. (it would of been a big problem for ME!) We did take a little box of cereal that our waiter supplied for us. We had been told by others the fish really like cereal.

We went snorkeling in the Cayman Islands and our waiter gave us some bread/rolls and the fish loved it. We were all by ourselves off shore, that is my wife two daughters and myself. The fish appeared out of nowhere and they loved the food. Got some great underwater pics of the fish taking food out of the kids hands. Something we are looking forward to doing again. The fish were quite calm and never really became aggitated.

I have snorkeled at Coki Beach and fed the fish. What they sell on the beach is nothing more than Purina Dog Chow. The fish love it. Next time I was thinking of taking dog biscuits for a better hold on the food. You are able to feed them while standing in waist deep water too so you don't have to be a proficient swimmer.
