My family and I will be cruising on the Triumph in early July to the Eastern Caribbean. Ports of Call (San Juan, St. Thomas and St. Croix). Any suggestions on what to do while in San Juan - the ship arrives on Monday evening at 6:00p.m. and departs Tuesday 2:00a.m. early morning. Maybe a nice dinner/evening show at one of the hotels or should we just stay on the ship and look forward to St. Thomas and St. Croix - any suggestions would be helpful.

I'd stay on the ship, enjoy dinner in the dining room - you've paid for it and if you don't know San Juan it may be difficult to find a good restaurant. Explore the ship, attend the show on the ship, just have fun. Do not wander off by yourself at night - there have been muggings in the area. We hope to go the day before our ship sails in December so that we can do some shopping in downtown San Juan.
Just look forward to St. Thomas and St. Croix. You can shop till you drop in St. Thomas. There are some nice stores in Fredricksburg so you don't have to go all the way over to Christianstad. We went down a little alleyway and found a couple of very nice stores - one of them sold the Tortuga Rum cakes - yummy. Have a great time.

Sunnie; Are you docking at Old San Jaun? I would take adavantage of what day light you might have and walk to the fort or get a taxi. Beautiful views from the fort and alot of history. I think most ships go there for the so called gambling. We surely enjoyed it in the day time but not anything for us at night! Hard rock cafe! I think this is one of the prettiest ports to arrive at. The fort on the point and all. I would think they would have a deck party that night.

Thanks for the feedback. We definitely will not venture out alone. I was thinking we'd maybe do a (little early shopping, dinner on the ship, and enjoy the view from our verandah). My husband had suggested we could take in one of the dinner shows at the hotels that the ships group tours offers.
As far as what part of San Juan we will dock in, I'm not really sure.
I do wish we could visit during the day, I would love to see old San Juan.

The old fort is very interesting, but enjoy the shopping in Old San Juan to be the best!
If you had a little most time you could see the rain forest.

Hi, Sunnie ...

The old city of San Juan is absolutely packed with great restaurants. I haven't been to all of them (yet). I agree with the idea to take a walk (about 15 minutes, max) or a cab to El Morro. Then stroll your way back down the hill where every outlet store ever to come into existence has an outpost.

Keep in mind that it doesn't stay light all that late because you're in the tropics.

Pam
