hi! Lucky you going to my home islands! Leith is the port for Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland and a wonderful city. You must not miss the castle, the palace of holyrood house, the royal mile, princess st. gardens, with the floral clock, the wonderful shops along princess st,etc.etc. I could go on and on, the best thing to do I would think would be to take a tour of the city so you can cram it all in, don`t forget your umberella as scotland is not the driest and sunniest country in the world, (thats why it stays so green) have fun and happy sailing...jean

Pack everything for Britain - sweater, light rain coat, umbrella and sun cream. Our weather is very unpredictable!

Dublin is a very exciting city with lots of cultural things to do, like museums etc. St.Peter Port, Guernsey, is charming. There are lots of cobble stones and alleys with little shops. It's a small island so it will probably be possible to do a complete tour as well.

Also remember just about everything in the UK will be more expensive than in the USA!

What cruise lines do British Isle itineraries? Those ports of call sound wonderful!! (If only they could figure out a way to get that ship into Inverness, I'd be happy as a clam - it's one of my favorite places on this Earth!!)

Thanks one and all! We are on Seabourn but I think Princess also does British Isles tours. (I'll be sure to take an umbrella!)

Winner,

Invergordon is further north in Scotland, and if you golf there is a fine course at Dornoch. It is also handy for Inverness, but the real scenary is in the Western Highlands, so if there are any tours to take you to places on the West Coast, say for instance Ullapool I can recommend it. If you require any more information please e.mail me.

We got a taste of the British Isles last summer at the start of our Trans-Atlantic - sailed out of Southhampton, although it was pouring rain so we didn't see too much. Our next stop was in "Dun Leary" (phonetic spelling) where we took a tour into the incredible countryside. It was an absolutely perfect day, too. Stopped at monastic ruins in Glendalough and Powerscourt gardens. Had lunch at a hotel (can't remember the name, but the food was good). Everything was absolutely beautiful. People who did the Dublin tours enjoyed themselves, too. Now I definitely want to do a cruise 'round the Isles someday! My ancestry is Celtic - English Irish French Scotch - so I feel a real connection there. But anyone would appreciate the beauty and history, not to mention the friendliness of the people!

I might go as far as to say that Dubliners are a little more friendly than Londoners...and I'm a Londoner!

Alternatively, anyone keen to visit the United Kingdom could arrive in style, to Southampton via the QE2. There are some great deals from time to time, on the lower cabin grades. Being a small-ish Island it is possible to take a coach tour or train journey's of the UK. Dublin is only 45 minutes flight from London. Paris is only one hour away too!
