It depends on what Island you're talking about. The dock in Ohau is downtown and you can start reaching the main strip of hotels in about a 5 minute taxi ride. The port in Maui is in a more residential/industrial area so figure 20-30 minutes to Lahina or Kehei depending on traffic. If you're talking about the hotel in Hana plan on a ride of a couple of hours and all that Dramamine you didn't use on the ship, you'll need for the ride there. In Kuai there is one hotel (could be more now) that is within walking distance of the pier. It use to be a Weston but I think it has changed hands since I was last there. I really don't remember about the big island. Plus so much has been built up there over the last couple of years.
I didn't take this particular curise so I can't help you as to which side of the ship is better for viewing. I'm assuming you're thinking about which side to book a cabin on but as most of the ships sail at night it's almost a moot point. Which ever side you're on though you'll have a great trip.

quote:Originally posted by scone.:Hello folks,my wife and I are experienced and dedicated cruisers. This year we have in mind a cruise on the Vison in September.I believe it is eleven days leaving from Vancouver going to Hawaii. Can anyone tell me how close the hotels are to the cruise terminal? And can you recommend any one in particular? Also if anyone has done this particular cruise can you recommend which side of the ship would be best for viewing the Hawaiian islands? Your input would be appreciated.
There are many hotels in downtown Vancouver convenient to the Cruise Terminal. Suggest you use your favourite search engine - enter 'Vancouver, BC" - then look for 'Hotels'. - more information than you will need. Rates are high in Vancouver but if your stay is short, a downtown hotel is a must - you don't want to overnight at the airport, it's a long way out, You'll love Cruising the Hawaiian Islands - our most recently trip was in February this year - see my review under 'Reader Reviews' .Don't worry about being on Port or Starboard side - makes no difference.
