We're looking at booking a June cruise out of Fort Lauderdale. On past cruises, we've tended to stay at Miami hotels for cruises out of Fort Lauderdale because the frequency of flights out of Montreal to Miami is far greater than to Fort Lauderdale. Especially important when you are using up frequent flier points!

The one exception was last year, when our travel agent booked us into the Doubletree Inn. A nice hotel, right on the intercoastal waterway, but it was at the far north end of the city and an expensive cab ride to the port.

Can any of you cruise talk regulars recommend a good hotel that is close to both the FLL airport and Port Everglades. From what I've read here, I'd stay away from the Amerisuites. The Mariott Fort Lauderdale Marina and the Embassy Suites look good on paper (well, on the internet) but personal recommendations and comments are really what I'm looking for.

Fire away!

We have stayed at the the Sheraton Yankee Clipper a number of times and always had a good experience.

It's right on the beach, has a number of pools, and if you get there the day before your cruise you can sit on the beach in the afternoon and watch all the ships head out to sea.

Here's a link to a page from our Millennium Cruise with more information about the hotel.

The Marriott Marina is very close, and a nice property. Across the Inter Coastal waterway at the top end of the price scale is the Hyatt Pier 66; expensive but nice. If you are just looking for a place to sleep, across the street and directly opposite is a Best Western. I've not stayed there, but have heard it is basic but much less money than the above.

There is also a Marriott resort right on the beach. It is pricey at $250 a night for a mid-range room. It is a full resort with cabanas, tennis, pools. I'm glad we stayed there. We could see the port and the ships from our room.

We have seen a Hyatt hotel right across the street from the port. We're very tempted to stay there or at the Sheraton. All are located near a nice shopping area.

We're going to be staying at the Hampton Inn in Hollywood in a few weeks. It is supposed to have a free shuttle to/from the airport and to/from the cruise ship terminal. I'll let you know how it goes......

My vote is for Pier 66. Sure it is expensive, but having stayed at the Marriott Marina last year, I was not impressed. Restaurant was terrible and the staff was of no help. They have a lovely big pool, grounds are very nice and the revolving bar at the top of the hotel is great for seeing the ships in the harbour.
Spend the money - you can't take it with you!!!!

Oh! I totally agree! My husband & I stayed there on our first trip to Florida a couple of years ago! You are a 'stones throw' from the Port! We had to wait one time while the drawbridge let a sailboat go under! It was so cool! We got to really get a good, long look at a cruise ship docked! It was awesome! You can't really know what it is like to see one in a picture! Seeing them in person is amazing! Seeing them is what got us to start dreaming of a cruise! We are going on our first one in April! For our 25th Anniversary!!!
YESSSSS! Stay at Pier 66. You can go onto a lot of websites that have internet prices & specials on hotels. Good Luck!
PS-Pier 66 is your best bet! SOOOOO close to the port!!!

Just a word of warning about the Hyatt Pier 66. The cheapest rates are often assigned "Lanai" rooms. These are very nice, and surround the tropical gardens and the pools. But, they are in the 2 story low rise part of the complex, NOT in the tower with the gorgeous views over the ocean, harbour or intercoastal waterways. So, if that view is what you want, make sure your rate qualifies for rooms in the tower!! I've been caught once, and had to pay a hefty surcharge for a tower room.

DON'T stay at the Hampton. We usually like to stay at Hamptons, but I was very disappointed with this one. We stayed there the night before our cruise, and also the night after our cruise. One of the nights, there were little bugs all over in the bathroom. We also had to hire a cab to get to the airport in the morning, because we had to be there before the shuttle bus started running.

Oh well! Live and learn, I guess........

My vote is for Pier 66 too. The 'Lanai' rooms are very nice particularly if you have some spare time to enjoy the pools and gardens. Tower Rooms of course are lovely but it's cheaper to stay in a 'Lanai' and go for drinks etc. to the top of the tower.

Happy cruisin'

Thanks to all for posting on this topic. We still haven't made reservations, but from what I've seen on-line, the Sheraton recommended by Joe seems to offer the best cost/benefit ratio.

I sincerely wish we could stay at the Pier 66, but the budget just isn't there...
