I see on some boards many questions about snorkelling when on a cruise. In warm water it is an experience not to be missed. You can take that from me... someone who did not learn to swim untill past 50!! It is a whole new world down there & even nonswimmers can partake with the right flotation devices. If you are in warm waters ,give it a go, you will be surprised. As a sample of what is to be seen I have loaded my snorkle photos into 2 webshots albums, all taken with std disposable cameras avaiable at DF shops in airports.link is:-

You spoilsport! Brits are hardy and we go swimming in weather the rest of the world would be sitting inside in front of a fire

I will show your post to my husband. He can swim to save his life, but other than that he refuses to go in the water, just hates it. I have given up trying! He just doesn't know what he's missing a whole new world down there, and a much nicer and usually more peaceful one. I will look at your photos later, Jubilee stuff is calling today.

Out of interest did you get your snorkel gear here or overseas? I am looking for some half-decent, not too expensive, as not often used stuff, but it seems to just be the crappy kiddie ones around in the shops here. I used to have some good stuff but the rubber perished after 25 years service. Can't blame it really.

Pam

Welcome to CruiseTalk, cruisegirl!

I have a couple of friends who went snorkelling every day during an Eastern Carib cruise this year, and they found somewhere good at every stop.

They're not members of this board (unless they are lurking ... come out, come out, wherever you are!) but I'll contact them and see if they can put some tips your way.

Do write back with a Reader Review when you've done your trip, there must be other snorkellers out there who will be interested in your comments.

(Never fancied snorkelling myself. If we were meant to go that deep in the water, God would have fitted us with azipods.)

Eric,
Nice post, great topic. We've been all over the world and snorkel gear is usually in tow. Most recently on a trip to Providenciales, Turks and Caicos since you mentioned non-swimmers, there's a great place on Grace Bay called the Coral Gardens. Its literally 5 feet from shore, in very shallow water. One of the most incredible sites I've snorkeled, a total underwater city. Give it a try sometime.

Great shots Eric...
Must tell you a funny story about disposable underwater cameras......
On a cruise through the Great Barrier Reef from Cairns to Brisbane, bought one for the snorkelling experience at Hardy Reef....
Had a great time .....took lots of pics...saw lots of fish and coral......but when got pics back found out I had the Camera wrong way around and all I ended up with
was shots of myself.....

ROTFL! But I bet you were mad.
Thanks for the info. Eric, I should have remembered the DD place, been there before, and some friends learnt to scuba at Gildenburgh. I will get around to doing something soon.
