OK... Now that Celebrity's brought their prices down to reality (see here and here), I'm wondering which ship is better (HORIZON or ZENITH).

My instict tells me HORIZON (this is nostalgia, it would be nice to see my first ship ten years on ) but that's also supported by itinerary (I think). This is because she spends one day at St. George, and three at Hamilton, whereas ZENITH is two at each. I'm assuming it's more flexible to be at Hamilton longer because of its central location? Or am I missing something?

Seeing as I haven't been to Bermuda for eight years I don't remember too much about the place, except that it was the most gorgeous island I've ever seen . So a little help would be appreciated.

I didn't post anything twice! I posted an update on the prices in the Cruise Lines section, where I had posted about it before, and I posted a question about Bermuda in the Ports of Call and Destinations section. This seems perfectly appropriate to me as one topic was talking about a Cruise Line and the other was talking about a Port of Call and Destination.

I would agree with you that Horizon's itinerary is the better of the two. Hamilton is more central, and has more to do. St. George's is quite quaint and is close to a few beaches, but Hamilton has more action, and nice ferry rides out to the dockyard, or just around the harbor for some nice pics. Hope you get to go...

I was on the Horizon to Bermuda October 2002. We had a great time and loved the cruise. When the ship moved from Hamilton to St. George's we rode the bus and stopped various places along the way and then met up with the ship. DO stop at the Swizzle Inn! The Swizzle Rum drink is wonderful but very strong. Their food was great. We all ordered a different appetizer since it was lunch time and shared. Wonderful time was had by all. I wouldn't want to be docked at St. George's very long because it is WAY out there. Not very central to things. Unique but not for a long stay. Being right there at Hamilton for a few days was great.

well i differ, i rather stay in
st. george because it is more
lay back. i will be going on the
norweigan majesty in sept. and
have sailed on her to bermuda
5 times in the past 6 years.
i love bermuda better then the
carribean islands because of the
variety of things to see and do
there. bermuda is also a great
place to shop for quality merchandise.

there's lots to do for tourists! Beaches, beaches, beaches! Golf? Snorkeling? Scuba Diving? Para Sailing? Helmet Diving? Relax??? Some people like an activity filled schedule, others prefer to take it at a slower pace. You're a little too young to enjoy any Dark&Stormy's or Swizzle but there's plenty other stuff for you to do!

If you have any specific questions , feel free to ask or PM me. If I don't know, I don't have a problem finding out for you.

The Dolphin tank at the Royal Naval Dockyard Museum was the highlight of my trip. I found St. George boring. Hamilton is pretty.

Love the men's fashion of the Bermuda Suit: cotton knee length shorts, shoes, calf socks in a color to match the sports jacket, shirt and tie.

ravster - how is the Underwater Institute (sorry, I can't recall the exact name) in Hamilton doing?

Is Palmetto Bay Cottage Colony still operating? Our last visit was too long ago - thinking about another trip.

A 'Swizzle' wonderful! You have to know the right bartender though!

cruiseny:

I was 'off topic' with my earlier post but to be honest as a cruise destination I don't like Bermuda - for my money it's a 'stand alone' destination.

As a cruise it's too short and, regardless of season, it can be a rough ride from New York - and the time spent on that beautiful island is much too short.

The Caribbean it is not! We've spent time there in every month of the year except July and August.

Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute (BUEI) (http://www.buei.bm/) is still there. Funny, because, I've lived here all my life and since it opened, I've never been inside of the building.

Palmetto Bay, I know alot of it has been turned into condominiums for local housing, but they *might* still have a certain number of guest houses or rooms for rent. I think it is zoned as hotel land so, by law, a portion of it has to have so many rooms/beds available for tourists. Don't quote me on that but I will try to find out.

Had some Swizzle from Swizzle Inn this past Canada Day, no swaggering out this time!

Thanks 'ravster' I appreciate it.

That you haven't visited BUEI is not surprising - like me and our Skydome! - when something is local, seems we only visit if out of towners express an interest! I'll check out the site.

it can be a rough ride from New York

But that's the fun part.

Bermuda is a stand alone destination. Yes. That's why the ship acts as both your transportation to the Island and then sits there as your floating hotel while you enjoy the island.
