Another great place is Diamond Head in Honolulu.
Watching the sun rise over Waikiki is something you will remember all your life.
You need a rental car the day before, and have to rise at 4.am....then line up at the entrance to the crater, till the military arrive and open the gates .
You then walk the volcanic rock track to the summit, where the torch that you 've bought comes into play,as you have to ascend a staircase in the dark to arrive at a platform that gives you .......
the most amazing views over Waikiki, and you share the sunrise with every one else who has taken the trouble to come up and see it.......
AWESOME........

It is difficult to say which place is my favourite.
Depends on the mood.

Sunset can be very beautiful, I remember standing on the rocks above a cataract of the Nile, near Aswan, the whole dessert orange pink, quiet eternal impressive.

The aft deck of the Oceanic, with a daiquiri, in a mediterranean night, with the lights of Naples flickering and slowly disappearing.

Or a walk in a nice english country house park

Of the buzz of a city

Or quiet at home, with a good book, while outside there is fog
