It has been anounced that a new terminal will be built at Limassol Cyprus.
The construction will begin in early 2005 and finish in time for the 2007 season.

The terminal will replace today's temporary facilities provided just after the Turkish invasion when the main port at that time1974 (Famagusta) became inactive.

The new terminal will provide modern check in facilities as well as Travel Value Shops and restaurants with nice sea view. It will aslo provide luggage reclaiming facilities as well as plenty of parking space for buses, taxis and cars.

The designer of the scheme said that, when finished, the building will look like a ship with typical partholes and wooden decks.

With this move, Cyprus Ports Authority aims to attract international cruise companies as well as enhance the product offered for local companies.

Good news Pan. I have not sailed into or out of Limassol, but have Famagusta [only on an excursion boat, on a day trip], so you know how long ago that was!

Well, the new terminal is a good reason to visit us again
But I am afraid you will have to wait a couple of years...

Just turned back from Limassol, where I was with the Lirica. They do not only need a new cruise-terminal, but also a footpath/sidewalk to the city-centre. (Just connecting to the Limassol-boulevard !!)
Maybe also a newer, better, free shuttle service. Plus a hop on/hop off bus. And the shops open on wednesday !

Henri.

Hi there

I totally agree with you.
The good news is that except from the new terminal at Limassol port, the area of the old port (now fishing port) is going to be regenerated in near future.
A new seaside road (pedestrian, bicycle and cars) will connect the two ports.
Along the new road is the place of the new marina which is going on site (start building) in January.

For people who have been to Limassol, the old port regeneration covers the port, the surounding area as well as the old Castle area.

All works are expected to finish by 2007.

Hi Pan,
I also hope that there will bee a "rent a bike"-shop in/near the new terminal. It's very pleasant when you can rent a bike (maybe via the ship, or at home via internet) where you go ashore. Ofcourse for a reasonaeble fare.
N.b. this is not only for Limassol, but for every port!!
We used the free bikes in Helsinki and Copenhagen, and it was wonderfull. For the whole day you could ride through the city, visit nice places, have e beer, etc, and leave the bike near the ship.
Henri.
