The train or bus (National Express) is the cheapest way. You take a short cab ride (10 mins) from the port to the train station of Bus station.
National Express will take 3.5 hours to Gatwick and cost about £20 per adult, depending on the date and time. I think Heathrow is about 3 hours.
The train will be faster, but more expensive, and the fares are a bit complicated to work out!

British Airways fly shuttles from Southampton to Heathrow and Gatwick.
You wouldn't take a taxi all the way from Port Everglades to JFK...........

No, but you would from Port Canaveral to Orlando.
BA don't fly directly to any London airport from Southampton, one has to go via Manchester [Edinburgh or Glasgow], taking approx 3 hours, without the check-in time before hand.
Looking at SOU's website, it doesn't appear there are any direct flights to London, not even with Flybe.

I stand corrected. Just assumed that BA would do a Southampton to London shuttle, but living near Manchester I never needed one! Maybe they are missing out?
BTW, the roads from Port Canaveral to Orlando are a heck of a lot clearer than the motorways from Southampton to London, never mind the M25..........
"In good traffic"...... whenever do we get good traffic anywhere near London?
