Port of Nagoya

Situated at the innermost part of Ise Bay, which is located at the center of the Japanese Archipelago on the east coast facing the Pacific Ocean, the Port of Nagoya has steadily grown since it opened for international trade on November 10, 1907. The Port is an integrated international port, handling all types of cargo (general, container, bulk etc.) We are the largest port in Japan in terms of total cargo throughput, which reached 216 million tons in 2007, and counted as one of the five major ports in Japan (Ports of Tokyo, Yokohama, Nagoya, Osaka and Kobe.)
We are proud that our port tops all others in Japan in terms of trade value (total export/import value) in Japan, which amounted to 16.7 trillion yen in 2007. This is approximately 10.7% of the nation's total trade value of about 157.1 trillion yen. Of particular note is that the Port of Nagoya accounts for about 61.8% of Japan's total trade surplus of around 10.8 trillion yen.

The Port's hinterland is home to Japan's automobile industry. We are the No. 1 automobile exporting port in Japan, shipping approximately 1.9 million completed automobiles annually.
The Port of Nagoya plays a major role as a point of entry to Japan, through its connections with approximately 150 countries around the world.

Is there anything here of interest to a tourist?

When one goes to Los Angeles, do they visit Torrance?

When visiting New York, why are they concerned with the port of Elizabeth, New Jersey?

Nagoya Port Terminal Public Corporation operates the Ferry Terminal, which is located near Kinjo pier.

With services connecting Tohoku and Hokkaido, the Port of Nagoya Ferry Terminal is widely utilized for cargo transport, business and leisure travel.
This ferry terminal, consisting of two berths for 10,000-ton class vessels and a passenger terminal, was constructed by the Public Corporation in the early 1970’s as a base for large and long-haul car ferry services.
Today, ferries have become an indispensable transport mode supporting domestic logistics and passenger traffic, and are attracting renewed attention as a key player in a modal shift from automobile to maritime transportation, which will alleviate road traffic congestion and environmental pollution caused by exhaust emissions.
