As one sails around Île de Ratonneau off Marseille, this 'interesting' building is prominent. I can't seem to find any reference as to what purpose it serves on the net; other photos just describe it as a bridge, pilothouse etc.

Is it a private residence, hotel, restaurant - something else please?

Wow...what a find Pam. It's looks to be inspired by the Art-Deco design of the Queen Mary, complete with ancor.

Hello Pam, I've only seen your post now since I virtually never visit this part of the forum.

It is the building of customs. Mainly watch, vessels traffic monitoring... I suppose.

Many thanks Vaccaro nice to know it was no doubt designed in line with its intended purpose. There are many interesting port control stations/monitoring traffic buildings around the world, but not come across one like that before.

Looking for something else entirely I came across this webpage. The land was purchased around 1948 and the Pilot Station became operational in 1950/1951. The bow is a large water tank. No longer in use, but was initially the main water supply for the island before mains were installed.
