Tomakomai is located to the south of Sapporo City and much closer than Hakodate(About 40 minutes by JR Limited Express Train).
Hakodate is linked with Sapporo in about three hours and 15 minutes by JR limited express via Higashi Muroran and Tomakomai.

There are two ferry terminals in Tomakomai. The main ferry terminal is located at Tomakomai Nishiko(west harbor) for ferry sailings to and from Hachinoe, Oarai, Sendai, Nagoya.

Kawasaki Kinkai Kisen(aka Silver Ferry) operates out of Tomakomai and provides daily ferry service to Hachinohe.
Ferry Sunflower(MOL Ferry Co.,Ltd) provides overnight ferries to Oarai.
Taiheiyo Ferry offers overnight ferries to Sendai and Nagoya.

Tomakomai Higashiko Shubun Futo Terminal

The other terminal is the Tomakomai Higashiko Shubun Futo Terminal and located at East harbor district.
This teminal is exclusively used by Shin Nihonkai ferry and offers ferry service to Akita, Niigata as far as Tsuruga in Fukui prefecture.

Old "Suisen" is berthed at the Tomakomai Higashiko Shubun Futo Terminal.
Suzuran and Suisen operates daily non-stop service between Tomakomai and Tsuruga.
