Welcome Samantha . A Carnival 'Fun' day is a day at sea, cruising to the next port. A sea day might sound boring - but they really can be fun!

There are lots of Carnival Reviews from real passengers, in our 'Readers Review' section (menu left). This will give you lots of tips about the ports and the ship.

Come on CruiseTalkers, this lady needs help!

(After your cruise, please return and let us know how it went).

Hi,
I'm new, too, but the Readers Reviews ARE excellent. Just go there and look up your ship and see what people had to say about it.
It's over there on the list on the left.
I think that I saw something somewhere else on the Celebration. I'll go look and if it's relevant I'll get back to you.

Samantha - We learn something new every day - it looks absolutely gorgeous -

Calica, the newest gateway to the Yucatan Peninsula, is located just three miles south of Playa del Carmen and right next door to the incredible Xcaret nature park, one of the most popular attractions on the entire peninsula. If you're a diver or a snorkeling enthusiast, you'll be fascinated by the brilliant colors of Calica's underwater world. Or you can just enjoy basking in the sun on one the many beautiful beaches.

Comes up on Carnival 'Destinations'. I found it through GOOGLE

Hope this helps.

Happy cruisin'

Calica is in a remote area, but very close is a great ecological park, swim with the dolphins, swim in caves, things like that, we had a blast there. They say there are tours to Cancun but it is VERY far away, around an hour and expensive. Playa is not to far, our kids went there to Senor Frogs( some kind of place like Planet hollywood I think) and they had fun there.

Carnival had so many choices of fun things to do on the days labeled "Fun Day at Sea" that it was really difficult to decide on one thing. One afternoon they were racing the dolphins they'd bid on, they had a class on napkin folding, they had a trivia contest, they had a bingo game and an art auction all going on within the same 2 hours or so. They keep you SO busy!!!! A lot of people just spent the day out by the pool. There was no way we could have been bored on Carnival. I barely got a page read in any of the reading material I brought to get caught up on.
Have a wonderful time!!! I know you will.

My family and I sailed on the Celebration in January of 2001. My kids range in age from 12-21 and we had a great time. There was lots for everyone to do. We went snorkeling in Cozumel and it was great and to the beach in Calica (we traveled to the beach at Play del Carment) and it was fun. The days at sea were fun for all and there were activities for all ages. Enjoy yourself!!!

Formal night is a special night for all the ladies to get glittery and gusied up when they otherwise have few opportunities to do so. It is a valid part of the total "cruise experience." For the ladies, it can be everything from beaded two-piece outfits(both Pants and Long skirts) to a nice pants suit. For the men Tuxes to dark suits to nice sport coats and slacks. It is primarily in the main dining room and if you don't want to dress up you can go to the Lido Buffet or possibly to some other alternative dining venue. In our casual society it's nice sometimes to just step out of the norm and get dressed up.

About packing - take at least half as much as you think you will need -
1. There's a good chance that you'll spend the daylight hours in one outfit - 2 pairs of shorts and maybe 4 tops - do nicely

2. At least 3 bathing suits with cover-ups (for lunchtime and walking through the ship)

3. Go for broke for your one or two 'formal nights'

4. Informal nights - sharp slacks, floaty skirt (NO JEANS unless they are the real 'dress up' kind) - matching tops.

5. Casual nights - comfortable slacks, skirt - matching tops.

6. Shoes weigh a ton - maximum 3 pairs.

7. Save all your dry cleaning bags - they really are 'wrinkle helpers'. Zip lock bags for T-shirts and blouses - a few spares for wet swim suits.

8. Top of the line moisturizing shampoo, conditioner and hair spray - I recommend Phytologie

The bottom line -Colour Co-ordinated Mix and Match - never take anything that you will only wear once (exception, maybe for Formals).

Cabin - inside/outside? - chances are you'll only sleep there so it makes little difference. If you're truly claustrophobic, I suggest an outside.

Happy cruisin'

Inside vs outside cabin? I'd be happy with inside and spend the saving on something more permanent, but my wife MUST see the sun in the morning so we have always taken outside when available. The inside ones are attractively furnished and usually have a curtain where a window or porthole might be to give a nice illusion.

My Husband must see the sun...until we had an inside on a last minute mini cruise in Dec. He was happy with the view from the bridge on the TV monitor, and the cabin was bigger than the outsides. He would do it again...but not in preference, whereas before he was dead against it.

You can write a 'Readers Review' for us when you return, if you wish! It's great to have first-timers opinions.
