Hi Jesse,

No, I do not think these past tragic events will have any great, or long lasting effects on cruising. As was recently just proven on the Carnival Fascination, there is now very strict security measures in place.

Although no mode of transportation can be 100% safe, these new security measures should give a passenger a good sense of security which should enable them to enjoy their cruise without worry.

I believe in the immediate future, there will be even more stringent security measures to go into effect, to safeguard the lives of passengers and crew.

I also believe that cruise lines will not include in their intineraries, any country which could be dangerous to its passengers.
We, as Americans Jesse, have to be more careful than ever as to where we travel.
We just must be very prudent in our choices of cruise ships and their ports of call.
Also, we can always opt to stay aboard the ship while it is in port if we do not feel completely safe.

To any new cruisers reading this, my advice to you is ----Go ahead and book a cruise and enjoy one of life's most enjoyable experiences.

Regards,
Mike

Terrorists will not kill an Cruisegoer.
this is too easy and brings nothing.
They look for the "Big Bang".

Americans are hated in a lot of Islamic Countries, because their Politics with Jews and Palestinians.

...and the Turbo-Capitalism, which costs a lot of People their Jobs, while their former Companies made more and more Profits.

Most of the Muslims are friendly and nice People, but if you found 1 per Cent not friendly, this is 5 Million from half an Billion...

I'm supposed to go on my first cruise soon. But because of the terrorism attacks on America I'm now rethinking whether I really want to go at all. The White sand beaches of St. Thomas sound very nice but to be a sitting duck on a cruise ship or an airplane makes me a little nervous. I don't feel the terrorists are finished. Maybe I'll go to Mexico instead. We can drive there and I can stay somewhere inland.

Hi Sewsassy 1

Don't give in to them!!!!!!!!!!
This is the type of fear that they want Americans to have.

Security is very tight on cruise ships now.
I have more fear of crossing a street here in Taipei because of the traffic!

Last month I booked a cruise from Taipei to Naha, Japan departing on October 5.
Yes, I am aware of the huge American base on Naha, and that the base is seeing more activity than usual, and that the base could be a targeet for terrorist attacks.
BUT, I AM STILL GOING!!!!!

I will not let this tragic event change the American way of life.

If for some reason the cruise line has to cancel cruises to Naha for security reasons, then I have no choice in the matter.
But, if they are still sailing there, I will be sailing as well.

My advice to you is go ahead with your cruise and have a great time. Show everyone that life will go on.

And while your ship departs the dock, say a prayer for all those who will never be able to cruise again.

To honor those who are not with us anymore, show your strength and pride and let those who want to destroy us see that they can never destroy the American Spirit.

Bon Voyage,

Mike

If there is coming an big War, the Tourists will weare Uniforms and handle Guns, not Suitcases.

If it only an short strike-back, i think, there will be no Problems for Tourism.

Great Britain for Example has an Civil War since a long Time, in Northern Ireland.
They cruise and travel and don't worry.

In case of an long and hard War, Tourist Industry is not alone to loose Customers.

Nobody needs Cars, Bikes, Laptops, Beauty-farms, and so on...

...in this case we become an Economic Crisis.

I would not be put off cruising, but I might be reluctant to fly to the embarkation port. Unfortunately, there is not a large choice of cruises available from UK ports, so a flight to the Med, Carribean or US would probably be essential. I don't enjoy flying at the best of times, but with the present uncertainty about whether or not the terrorists have finished their attacks, I will stay home.

The tragedy in NY no doubt has had a profound bearing on all of us, regardless of where you may reside. We are leaving from San Francisco this Friday 21st Sept for our Panama Canal cruise. My wife is uneasy because of the situation in NY.I am trying to console her by emphasizing the added security all round.
I only hope she will relax when our ship leaves port and we fall into cruise mode and tend to forget lifes troubles.Does anyone know of what extra precautions the cruise lines are taking on this matter? We will be sailing on the Dawn Princess.I should have said we are flying from Toronto Canada to San Fran.My feelings echo some already posted here, dont let these criminals spoil our way of life.America and indeed the whole free world must take action on this.I wish the military personnel involved in such action all the very best, and may God protect them.

Enjoy the Cruise, the Transpanama Trip is very nice and interesting.
I did it in 1994 (Cunard Crown Dynasty) in both Directions and in 1998 (Mercury) from Los Angeles to Ft. Lauderdale.

The Dawn Princess is an modern new ship. They have Control Systems on Board.

The safest time to fly is the Time short after an Accident!!!

Now, the Terrorsts will wait and see, what happens. I do not expect new Actions, until
US starts punishing them.

They take the Target with planning, the WTC Towers as Synonyme of Turbo-Capitalism and
rich East-Coast Jews, the Pentagon as Synonyme of US Military.

Cruisegoers are not of Interest. If they calculate so, they can attack an Railway Station or an Airport.

The US has a lot of Enemies in the Arabic World and Muslims are 1 Billion. I think, China is also no friend of Bush Administration (remember Spy-Plane this April
which rammed an Chinese Aircraft and the Conflict with Taiwan)

China has 1,3 Billion People and both, China and some Muslims have A-bombs and other nice toys...

I can't think of any contributions made to civilization by Muslim extremists.

I found this photo on the internet of the QE2 in Boston after a trans atlantic crossing. QE2 was not allowed to enter New York because the military had control of the docks.

That is right.
But to understand, what happens, you must think about what the Terrorists feel and think. Not what you think or feel.

On the other Hand, Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein are Children of US Politics.
CIA makes Bin Laden big, to fight the Soviets in Afghanistan and Hussein got his
Weapons and was made big to fight Iran
Mullahs, after the Shah Reza Pahlevi was thrown out of the Country.

So the Question is what "Friends" US Government has sometimes.

A part of Islam is today like Middle Ages in Europe (America was at this time a Country with Indian Natives).

Do not forget: Christian Europe under the Roman Catholic Church has in the Middle Ages
the "Inquisition". People, who did not follow strictly, what the Church wants are killed in Fire on the Market Places.

Galileo Galilei in Italy discovered, that the World runs round the Sun. The Church tells him, to negociate this, or he will be burned.

So he tells, that he made an mistake and the Church is right with their Opinion.

Kepler in Germany a little bit later was more lucky, some of the Country was reformated by Martin Luther and he could be more safe, to say things, the Pope did not want.

titanicsteve--My guess is that there will be a huge initial drop off in travel. However, if airlines and cruiselines (and travel agencies who were just reeling from the recently introduced new caps on airline ticket commissions)don't go under during this undefined (crucial) period, then people will be travelling again. It will rebound, because of the pent-up desire to get out and about: similar to the "cabin fever" that afflicts people in the States who get cooped up in their homes after a winter blizzard.

I am not going to cancel my November cruise. I do know a woman who cancelled a cruise last week. She promised to call the State Department about it. Not a State Department issue. She had cruise-company issues.

At this time, I was considering our 2002 cruise. We were going to book a cruise around Britain. We would fly in the day before.

I became concerned about the economy and didn't call (before the terrorism).

There are a lot of pink slips going around in the US. My husband and I have been there before: booked a cruise and one of us lost our job. While cruising is important to us, we still need to eat and make mortgage payments when unemployed.

Chances are, both my husband and I will stay employed. However, I am now concerned about the stability of the cruise companies and the travel agents.

I have paid the full amount on our November tickets and should have them in about a month and a half. Hopefully, my TA will still be in business.

I guess the rethinking that I have to do is this: I can no longer book a cruise a year in advance. I will need to book much closer to the time we go. The downside of this is that we may not get the stateroom we want. At least, I will have a clear understanding of the stability of the TA and the cruise company.

About terrorist acts: I could be home watching tv and have a bad guy break in. No, if I stay home the terrorists have won. However, I will be more vigilant about what is going on and have a reasonable gameplan in play.

Out of the recent terror, besides the police and the firemen, my biggest heroes are the guys on the plane in PA who tried to take the bad guys out.
