What was the longest cruise you ever took? Was it too long or too short?

I was on Royal Cruise Lines Crown Odyssey for 31 or 32 days...San Diego to Buenos Aries through the Panama Canal. I had a great time but I was ready to get off and go home. Just about out of cash as well. Worst part was the flight home, Argentina to Minnesota. Man was my butt sore.

Very funny, Malcolm!

My longest was LA - Hawaii -LA - Vancouver - 19 days - did this twice and I could have stayed on for another 19 both times. Had all the clothes needed and my good old VISA!

..and you said size didn't matter to men

78 days..but no idea whether I got fed up or not, too long ago. More recently the longest has been 13 days, not long enough. I could go on forever I think. When we [he] retire, we'll pack the bags and live on freighters, going from one to the next. Just need a good bookshop to keep me supplied aboard

12 days on Grand Princess... Not too short...

I imagine there would be such a thing as too long... I mean too long to be wasting your time on one ship only ... Living on ResidenSea doesn't appeal to me... I'd take the money, buy a small but nice place on land, in a nice city with a big airport, and take, a dozen or two cruises a year ... And maybe even ship-searching journeys in different regions doing short cruises and overnight ferry trips on various interesting ships...

And then of course I'd write about it, and take tons of pictures (something I do with everything), even though my family and friends would probably beg me not to ...

Hi...our longest was on the Star Odyssey from Cape Town to Singapore. A great trip, we rode the famous "Blue Train" from Johannesburg and did a three day safari out of Mombasa. Spices in Zanzibar, Christmas Eve in the Seychelles, and Christmas Day we crossed the Equator - 136deg on deck at noon.
Our most memorable tho' would be the long Antarctic on the Marco Polo, never forget Scott's and Shackleton's huts in the Ross Sea.

I want to travel like Peter does!! We've done 4 longer cruises, in the 17 - 20 day range, and look forward to longer ones - but our destinations have not yet been as wide-ranging as his. A week just isn't enough, ten days barely adequate.

As long as I'm working full time I think 3 weeks would be the max I'd want to be away. Being retired would put a different spin on things. A world cruise on a great ship and with a large stateroom might be a nice way to spend a few months.

There is no such thing as too long on a ship!
Longest I have done in years past, is 3 seperate half-world cruises - Sydney to Southampton via South Africa and Southampton to Sydney via Panama Canal. Can't remember exactly how many days, but it ranged from 6 to 7 weeks depending on the route and the occasional storm/hurricane to slow us down!

Loved it - never bored - life is more like living in a small village than on a regular 7 or 10 day cruise - your ship becomes your "home" and your fellow travellers your "neighbours". I suppose people who enjoy port-intensive cruises wouldn't enjoy the sea days so much, but I love those long stretches of days at sea, and it seemed to make the next port we arrived at more exotic and exciting rather than a port in a different country every day.

Mind you I struggle these days with finding the time (not to mention money) to do a cruise of a similar length. When my job ceases to be, my dream is to do a whole world cruise - I think most are around 3 months or so at sea. Now that's a voyage!

I'm 24 and the longest cruise I took was my first cruise ever: QE2's Millenium World Cruise. The World Cruise, itself, starts the begining of January. However, I opted for the Christmas cruise, as well, so the entire cruise went from December 15th to April 14th. (The dates may be off a few days.)

Favorite Ports:
Oranjestad, Aruba
Pago-Pago, American Somoan Islands
Auckland
Sydney
Yorky's Knob (Great Barrier Reef)
Hong Kong
Bangkonk
Canary Islands

And, the transatlantic...such an amazing experience, especially if you take the northern route. The ship hit bad weather and we were in 40 foot swells; dishes were heard smashing in their locked cabinets in the Coronia.

16 days on the old SEA PRINCESS (VICTORIA) from Bangkok to Sydney. It still ranks as my all time favorite cruise to date.

Runner's up:
16 days on the REMBRANDT from Amsterdam to New York.
15 days on GOLDEN PRINCESS from Barcelona to Ft. Lauderdale.
12 days on SILVER CLOUD from Rome to Lisbon.

Shortest cruises:
1 night on the GALILEO, ECSTASY, REGAL PRINCESS and NORWEGIAN STAR.

Of course if I were to count my time working onboard CROWN PRINCESS, that would be my longest time onboard a ship (almost 8 months straight!).

Best,
Ernie
