We have noticed that teenagers have started the summer ritual in the local mall of leaning against the walls, holding the buildings up and making sure that the roof does not collapse for the next month or so.

This reminds us that those fortunate to have dillybar and Dillydude parents will be creating the usual annual disruptions on cruise ships circling the Caribbean during July and August.

For anyone who is a first time cruiser it is well to be aware that these cretins will be aboard, taking over the pools, jamming the elevators and making a general nuisance of themselves.

For those that can delay, mid September to November offer perfect opportunities for economic and relaxing cruising, old style.

There was a possibility that an upgraded Canadian style Chicken Cannon would be available for the season. Unfortunately, not so.
The cannon was upgraded with the ability to pneumatically hurl miscreant kids with weights up to 100 pounds over the stern of any cruise ship.

Unfortunately, the wild life preservation people banned the machine as being unfair to global marine life.

Well, its good to daydream.

Perhaps if you contact Rolls Royce, they'll let you adapt and test their Chicken Gun... just as long as you defrost the kids first!
[There's an old joke about this, which has recently been doing the rounds again.]

The big danger of cruising off-season is that you will be surrounded by the Gray Dollar (or pound) as we Brits say.

For anyone who is a first time cruiser, you could easily get confused between a ship and a retirement home. This is because cruise ships are often a cheaper option!

You will see the 'Grays' on board, taking over the pools, wearing swimming costumes far to skimpy for their advancing years, jamming the elevators and making a general nuisance of themselves.

You will hear them snoring, dribbling and general walking slowly and bumping into things. Worst of all you will here them constantly complain about the good old days and the youth of today!

So be warned!

At the symphony last night I stopped to fill out a survey - and ticked off an age bracket considerably higher than was true...leading me to conclude that too many months have gone by since I was on a HAL ship...I was also heard grumbling at work this morning that teenagers are easier to put up with than their parents!

The first thing to say is that I naturally disagree with the above topics, only because of the gross stereotyping of my own age group that is involved (I for example cannot stand shopping malls). The scond is that on the other hand, the basic message is perfectly valid. Indeed it's common sense, people shouldn't have to be told about it!

If school schedules are not an object there is really no good reason to take a vacation during school holidays. If you choose another date, it will likely be cheaper, less crowded (by ANYONE), in many cases the weather is better (in the case of summer anyway as it's often very HOT in many places in summer), etc.

Now we've really never been on a ship that was "trashed" by kids as some describe, but I don't doubt it happens. On the other hand our previous two cruises have been during the winter and spring school holidays respectively and in each case the ships were completely full, there were a lot of kids, and we paid probably twice the price as we would have if we didn't have that time restriction.

Another thing worth noting is that kids usually count as third/fourth pax in a cabin, meaning the overall number of pax on the ship is likely higher during school holidays.

So while I don't agree with the above topic (or rather the manner in which it is presented) I certainly can't disagree with the general point. Excepting places where the "off season" is created by bad weather, it IS the time to travel, if you can do that!

Cruiseny - I'm sure you are well behaved on a cruise, but the majority of the children on the cruises I've been on have been a royal pain in the a**.
I attribute that behavior to their parents and their upbringing. Their parents are usually a pain as well. How does the saying go? "The acorn doesn't fall far from the tree".

Topgun,

Had my parents not taken me and my siblings on cruises when I was a child, I would not be taking any as an adult and not on the board throwing political bombs and yanking your chain.

Just like the religious institutions and tobacco companies; cruise lines need to get future life long cruisers hooked while they are young.

PS: I have heard that the Disney Magic/Wonder ships and cruise format designed for families never have problems. One never sees them since there are multiple activities for kids of all age groups. It is not if there is something to do but decide what to do.

Princess and NCL also have a myriad of activities for young cruisers and teens.

If ships have hookers on board, the teens will be kept occupied and after be too exhausted to be rowdy. What a profit center for the cruise lines

Doug, Kietaro, Jake14, Commodore, other teens/ children-- What activities do you participate in?

Screw down the safety valves and hold in the fuzes

I think that Cruiseny got it perfectly and gave a very fair assessment of the situation.

It is a fact and is part of modern day cruising. To those involved, it is obviously an enjoyment and not a problem.

I merely point out that it can be avoided by those who have never had a cruise ruined by being ignorant of what can happening.

Either my brain is losing its hormones, or Cruiseny is getting really smart at a very fast rate.

You're as old as you feel. When you find yourself becoming intolerant of everyone and thing around you, and never stop whining and whinging all day, you've got old
The worst behaviour I have ever seen on a ship came from an elderly 'Gentleman'. He stood in front of the lifts jabbing at the call button with his walking stick. He kept missing. He was swearing away, shouting at the lifts. The wall was covered in black scrape marks from the rubber at the end of his stick Why he had it I don't know, he didn't use it to aid walking. I walked up and pressed the button, not a murmour, lift arrived a few seconds later, he got in muttering about how long it took to arrive! I did wonder if he did the same inside with his stick!
Pam..hoping I never become like him.

So it's the older generation who are to blame, the very ones moaning and groaning at the kids/teens running havoc on their cruises
Actually, I am sure this whole thing gets blown way out of proportion. Yes, there will be 'some' unruly kids/teens running riot, there will be 'some' unruly adults, and 'some' unruly retirees, but they are by far in the minority; just give the rest a bad name.
Like my gent above, he tarnished, in my eyes, every retiree aboard, just by his own behaviour.
Crumbs go to Disney for a single day and I bet you will meet some obnoxious visitors during that time. Queue jumpers, loud mouthers, complainers, wheelchair frauds [to queue jump].. met them all. But you're not stuck with them for a week.. next day you'll get a different bunch.

QED.

Game, set and match to Topgun, in my opinion.

M3MAN2K1, although we Cruise Talkers occasionally argue on here, we rarely resort to throwing insults at each other.

Steve - obviously he has no respect for his elders - you don't see the other teens talking to people like that - you are right everyone argues, but they don't throw insults. Knowing Topgun, he will just ignore this kid and take it with a grain of salt knowing from where it came from.

M3MAN2K1...re the above. It does illustrate part of the problem. Putting a message in CAPITAL letters as you did, is considered to be Shouting. A 15 year old shouting on this board is I suggest unnecessarily rude. I'd suggest an apology.

Yeah, I guess telling someone to "lighten up" these days is "insulting" Well, I personally found it insulting to us teens... Were all not like that...

You obviously have yet to develop a sense of humour!

Sorry! I dont find it funny when all someone can post is a complaint about someone else! I wanted to say something for a long time and here I did...

Steve - obviously he has no respect for his elders

Well obviously you dont really know who I am... I have been on the news for my respect to the sick and eldery! Maybe I choose who needs respect and who dosent! Click Here To See

Ok, I do agree, and I am sorry, to you that is... Like I said before, I dont see why everything "topgun" posts is insulting to the younger crowd!

Well thank you captian obvious! If he wants to post he will, but isnt because he dosent have the guts to... Probably sitting around trying to find something wrong with his life...

Well I am glad you find enjoyment in this! Yep, im sure you do! Why dont you go get some popcorn and a soda and re-read it a couple of times! You will feel great!

Look, not some smart ass kid, dont get me wrong. But I do get a little mad when I see other people bashing teenagers! We all arent bad, I go to a private school, do lots of community service, and still, go to the mall, movies and theme park! So what if I lean against a wall, or go swimming in a pool! I think once us "Cetin Teens" reach the age of 12, we arent as roudy in the pool! And you are saying that you never did anything devilish as a kid!? You never pressed all the evevator buttons, or ding dong ditched someone? Well if not, you need to try and loosen up... Carpe Diem! That dosent nessacarly mean be distructive, but try not to let us bother you! We are just kids, werent you ever one!
