Hello,
I have been on 2 NCL cruises, before they started the "Freestlye Cruising" concept. I have ABSOLUTELY NO COMPLAINTS about this cruise line! Both trips were the best vacations I have ever been on! I went on the Norwegian Majesty and the S/S Norway. If you are interested in a style of cruising where you can eat dinner at anytime and with (or without) anyone you want, no "mandatory formal-nights, etc... this is the line for you. I have never been on a Carnival Cruise, so I do not really know what to say about them....if you want to read more about Freestyle-Cruising, you can go to this link: http://www.ncl.com/freestyle/index.htm

Hope this helps!
~Brian

They're fairly similar, it all depends on what kind of deal you can get.

Focus on the itinerary, the faciltities, and the cabin size. Freestyle cruising is a gimmick though - ignore it when comparing the two.

I'm not sure that NCL and Carnival can be considered similar?

Check out the Readers Reviews (Menu Left) to get a feel for the differances.

I have sailed of the modern remaining cruise lines are Princess, NCL, and Cunard.

NCL has the best entertainment but very uneven food quality.

Princess has the best food and service and overall consistently good.

Cunard has terrible dining room service, everything else is average, but attracts the most interesting passengers.

Thanks all for your help!
I think we will most likely book NCL as i have heard decent things about them and they have decent prices.

I would take Carnival over NCL. I have been on both. NCL 's Freestyle Cruising needs some work ... a lot of time wasted from trying to get to dinner to trying to get off the ship in ports,,,,Very disappointing

I have sailed Carnival twice (the Sensation and the Victory)and NCL (the Norway)once. I found the food on Carnival to be superior to NCL (mainly because if you want the "good" food on NCL you have to go to the extra charge dining rooms) although I found the dining room service to be superior on NCL. The one thing I usually enjoy doing on a cruise is eating breakfast but the breakfast food on NCL was so absymal I slept in after trying both the casual and formal dining rooms for breakfast. The casual dining on Carnival was much, much better than the casual dining on NCL. Room service tied.
