We just booked the Golden Fleece (in conjunction with Brendan Tours) for June and I have virtually no information about Louis CL or our ship, the Calypso. There are very few reviews of the ship on the net and the Louis website does not give lots of details. Has anyone taken this cruise? I need to plan wardrobe because we are not leaving from our house in the U.S. and I am wondering about formal dinner evenings onboard. How formal is formal? Also, are dinners buffets or ala carte? How many table mates? They will not assign meal time until we board (which irritates me) which makes me wonder if the Calypso has "free style" (as I had before on NCL) or if it is early/late seating. I have never cruised in Europe before, only Mexico/Carribean - any advice or comments offered would be appreicated.

Thanks for the welcome and links, Ben. These are the same sites I found before and they offer very little info. Do you know anything else about Louis Cruise Lines? Thanks -

Have you read this thread from last year & see Elad's photos? She was previously sailing for Caspi, this season's sailing will be under Louis, so onboard proceedures will be different.

Just an update - they have changed the ship for this cruise. It is now the Coral. Interstingly enough, this is the only ship on the Louis website that has NO DETAILS regarding size, etc. Does anyone know anything about the Coral. I am getting nervous about this - this cruise line seems a little less than what I would expect. Their website offers virtually no information. HELP!

I think this is the ship, Click Here.

Flag: European Union, GRT: 14.000, Length: 148 m, Breadth: 22 m, Draught: 6 m, Cruising Speed: 22 knots, Stabilizers, air-conditioning throughout.

7 passenger decks, maximum 919 passengers in 343 cabins, 2 elevators, lounge and dining room of 380 seats each, 4 bars/cafes, cinema/theatre (100 seats), discothèque, night club, casino, swimming pool (pool area of 362 m2), fitness centre, massage room/sauna, shops/boutiques, photo shop, beauty salon, medical centre, reception.

She sounds like a nice little ship if they do not sell every berth! I notice that she has one of those side-ways 'theatres' like Braemar.

We have some readers reviews of her in her Triton days, HERE

Sorry I should be more clear in my last post...

Why are ships under "European Union flag" (some) now, Don't European states feel they should have some independent and fly there colors... Is this the same European Union that France turned down its constitution for independence rights in trade ?

I agree with you - she looks sweet. But what has happened to the windows at the back end of her Public Room Deck?

There is the place of the galley. This is the reason of windows disappearance.

Hi there,

to get back to the questions previously posted:

It is quite common that Louis Lines exchanges its ships within a season. Already Royal Olympia Cruises made the same.
As CORAL has only been recently aquired by Louis, they have now placed her on the itinerary of CALYPSO which will instead be cruising in Northern Europe.

The CORAL is the former TRITON, SUNWARD II, CUNARD ADVENTURER which was build in 1971.
During the last two years with Royal Olympia, the ship has not seen any maintenance works. When Louis took her over, they gave her a quick refit.
The ship is showing its age. Louis is doing a good job but the product is not luxurious at all. You can in no way compare it with NCL or any similar company operating in the Caribbean.
The vessel starts getting old, food is basic but ok, service is average and comes with a smile but do not expect any finesse at any moment. Even captain's nights are quite relaxed.
Louis has put the ship under control of Cora Marine which is managing her for Louis Hellenic Cruises. She is flying the Greek flag. The European Union has a flag too but is not an official register. You can fly this flag only net to an official register (as it was done on EUROPEAN VISION for example).
Louis actually goes the same steps as Royal Olympia did. With the new Greek devision of the line, they will be able to show Greece to their passengers more intensively than other, bigger companies do.

As I said, the vessel was only added to the fleet this year and might certainly need some more improovements to be a good product. But Louis tries hard.

Go ahead for it but be prepared that you will in no way find any similarities to NCL. It is something completely different.
Have a nice cruise !

Patrick

As I´m going at the end of July (29th July) for a 7 days cruise, at the first moment I was booked at Calypso, then they placed me at Coral, and Yesterday (15th June) I was informed by my travel agencie that I´m going at Calypso.

So I tell you to keep informed, cause at any moment they can change the ship.

And please keep me informed too !!

Thanks

I hope Louis knows what they are doing. I heard that one of the reason for ROC's demise was the last-minute changes of ships.

Do you know why they changed the ship ?
At least the critics about Calypso and Coral are not too bad as Perla´s.
But if anyone has further information about it I would appreciate !
