Hello All!

I'm in the middle of my travel arrangment those days.

I booked QM2 29Nov Southern Caribbean Calypso Depart Fort Lauderdale.

On Official Cunard's document its says that the ship will arrive back to Fort Lauderdale at 09dec
07:00 AM

My Question is, will i be able to book a flight From FLL airport to JFK at 12:15??
I understood that the airport is nearby the dock ...

Many thanks in advance
Elad

Most TA's these days would say to allow at least 90 minutes for airport check-in, to clear Customs and/or Security screening, and to make it to your departure gate. Allow 2 hours if you are flying International. Most flights start pre-boarding 20-30 minutes before they pull away from the gate. If you have priority boarding or are travelling 1st Class, you might want to make sure you are at the gate when this priority boarding begins.

The FLL airport is indeed very close to the airport (see picture below). The travel time is about 10 minutes depending on traffic. If you think you are going to be able to get off the ship no later than 9:45am, having cleared shipboard Customs and Immigration and reclaimed your luggage, then shoot for the 12:15pm flight. Otherwise, schedule later. If there is not a later or more convgenient flight, you may want to book a 1-night post cruise at a local Ft. Lauderdale airport and enjoy the local hospitality.

I see that December 9th is a Tuesday. I dont imagine that their will be 7 ships debarking that day so that flood of passengers trying to reach the airport all at the same time should be quite minimal.

You also may want to ask the ships Purser (if you do book the 12:15pm flight) to allow you to have Priority Disemnbarkation, especially if your flight is International.

Mnay thanks dmwnc1 for your kind answer.

by this amazing image , we can see clearly how close FLL AIR and FLL SEA are...

My boss (Cruise dep manager) told me that i should probably get off the ship arround 09:30 maximum 10:00am (ship arrive 07:00) and that i will reach the airport just on time (2 hours prior)

You can see the ships (not just their funnels) while waiting for your flight at the Fort Lauderdale airport, which really is quite depressing while waiting for your flight home. That being said, 12:15 pm might be pushing things depending on the day of the week and the number of ships in port that day. If you are thinking of staying a night in Fort Lauderdale, I highly recommend Lago Mar. Its on the beach so you can watch the ships sail at 4:30.

Infact , I checked it out and i found that beside the QM2 itself , 2 more ships disembarking that day:
Royal Princess and Noordam

I guess it will not considered as "A very busy day" right? I'm sure it wont be like sundays and saturdays....

We are talking about approx 5200 pax that day...
Its "only" a "Freedom and a half"...

Above this dmwnc1 mentioned that 90 min. before flight departure (domestic) might be enough .
the ship will dock at 07:00 and i assumed that till 10:00am i will be out (at least hope)
drive 15-20 min. to the airport by taxi (arround 4 miles)
so i guess that by 10:20 i will be at the terminal which is 2 hours prior.

Am i realestic?

There are other factors to consider. Is there going to be an available taxi? sometimes the queues build up and you have to wait.

For a domestic flight maybe OK, but I would say you are still pushing it. The distance to airport is only a small part and many things can delay one. I have been at MIA off a ship at 10.30, this would not have been early enough for an Int'l flight there at 12.30 - I have spent hour+ getting through 'security' alone, for domestic OK.

Immigration can be hit or miss too. Everything may go smoothly or you may have a long hold-up and not get away on time.

Providing there is a back-up plan and a later flight to catch then go for it, but personally why the rush? Why get all angst about will/won't you make the flight that morning. Keep the blood presure down and take a later flight, do you really need to be in NYC a few hours early than a 'safe' time flight?

Pam
