what a lovely ship this was, and certainly one of the most succesful liners of all time. To imagine that these kind of ships were still around in the 70s. Pity I was only a toddler then :-( All four ships of this class were very succesful anyway, with the last (BRITANIS) only going down three years ago....

Queen Frederica(ex Malolo, Matosonia, Atlantic) had 7 decks(Sun, Promenade, Riviera, Upper, Main, "A" and "B") for passengers to accommodate for 950(approx) cruising passengers in 437 cabins.
She had a Radio Room and a Swimming pool on the Sun deck.
One deck below were only public rooms located such as Delphi Club, Ateninian Lounge, Library, Aegean Lounge and Lido swimming Pool.
Riviera deck was used for Cabins and Writing Rooms.
Corintian Lounge with Card Room(Starboard) and Teenagers Room(Port) were located Aft/midship on the Upper deck.
Another Public rooms were a dining room, Pursers Office, Ships Shop, Beauty Salon, Barber Shop, Childrens Playroom and Lauderrette on the Main deck. Hospital on the "A" deck.

I have a brochure of her from the 60s (I will have to find it now) and her interiors appeared to be mostly original from her Matson Line days. Her main dining room was a two deck high white paneled room with very ornate columns and an orchestra balcony. Her other public rooms followed a similar classically traditional look. She had an incredible 51 year career. Those Matson ships were built to last!

Thanks for the photos of the Queen Frederica - my mother immigrated from Genoa, Italy to Halifax in July 1958on the Queen, and she enjoyed the trip down memory lane. Rd

My Dad took Queen Frederika when she was known as Atlantic in 1949 for his college graduation trip to Europe in 1949. After a month there, he met a pretty American girl on vacation as well. She was sailing back on Ile de France later that month, so my dad changed his plans (and touist class tickets) and booked passage on the Ile. My grandparents were not pleased as he and his friend booked a 1st class suite on the French ship so he could be near her. My grandparents ended up paying for the ticket on the Ile!
